(Whittier) – Six turnovers by California High resulted in scores as
\nRowland held on for a 17-10 victory Friday night\u00a0to
\nopen both schools’ 2009 football season.<\/p>\n

The Condors (0-1) turned the ball over six times, including two
\ninterceptions of senior quarterback Eddie Artiga by Raiders junior
\ndefensive back<\/span> Leonardo Freeman that killed two potential scores.
\nThree of the four turnovers resulted in all of Rowland’s scores.<\/p>\n

The Raiders<\/span> (1-0) opened the scoring late in the first quarter after
\nMichael Saiz recovered a fumbled snap inside the Condors’ 30-yard
\nline.\u00a0 Four plays later, kicker Henry Calistro hit a 32-yard field
\ngoal<\/span> with 3:20 left in the first quarter, giving the Raiders an early
\n3-0 lead.<\/p>\n

On the ensuing series, the Condors took almost five minutes to march
\n80 yards in 10 plays, culminating in a one-yard run by Terris Jones,
\ngiving Cal their only lead of the night. On the next Cal series,
\nDudley Gamino fumbled the ball after getting across mid-field, and the
\nRaiders not only recovered the ball but started their drive on the
\nCondors’ 30-yard line after a 15-yard personal foul.<\/p>\n

Ball took seven plays to move the ball the 30 yards, setting up his
\none-yard run to regain the lead 10-7, with 3:23 left in the half.
\nAfter getting the kick off at the 35-yard line, Artiga fumbled the
\nball again as he was being chased and lineman Steven David scooped up
\nthe ball and ran 25 yards for the score, 14 seconds after the previous
\nscore.<\/p>\n

The score would stay 17-7 until early in the fourth quarter after
\nTyler Hadden hit a 26-yard field goal<\/span>, closing the gap to 17-10,
\nhowever, Artiga threw his two interceptions in the second half,
\nruining the Condors’ opportunities to tie the score.<\/p>\n

California had 209 yards in total offense, with Artiga throwing only
\nseven completions in 17 attempts for 89 yards, but threw two costly
\ninterceptions. Gamino was the leading rusher with eight carries for 39
\nyards, but both Jones and Kevin Attanasio were right behind Gamino int
\nhe rushing stats, with Jones carrying 10 times for 37 yards and
\nAttanasio carrying seven times for 35 yards.<\/p>\n

Rowland’s offense had 203 total yards of Offense, with Ball getting
\nsix completions in 14 attempts for 69 yards, but threw one
\ninterception late in the game. Ball also led the ground game,
\ntakingthe ball 18 times for 48 yards, including the 1-yard touchdown
\nrun. Danny Garcia came in late in the game and in only six carries
\ngained 33 yards, while Josh Onoughe ran for 26 yards on nine carries.<\/p>\n

The Condors will host the La Serna Lancers on Thursday night while the
