{"id":2639,"date":"2009-09-12T01:25:45","date_gmt":"2009-09-12T08:25:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=2639"},"modified":"2009-09-12T09:44:39","modified_gmt":"2009-09-12T16:44:39","slug":"raiders-clip-condors-wings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=2639","title":{"rendered":"Raiders Clip Condors Wings"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2675\" title=\"miscellaneous 028\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/miscellaneous-028-300x210.jpg\" alt=\"miscellaneous 028\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" \/>By Tony Solorzano<\/div>\n<p>(Whittier) &#8211; Six turnovers by California High resulted in scores as<br \/>\nRowland held on for a 17-10 victory Friday night\u00a0to<br \/>\nopen both schools&#8217; 2009 football season.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Condors (0-1) turned the ball over six times, including two<br \/>\ninterceptions of senior quarterback Eddie Artiga by Raiders junior<br \/>\n<span id=\"lw_1252743800_0\">defensive back<\/span> Leonardo Freeman that killed two potential scores.<br \/>\nThree of the four turnovers resulted in all of Rowland&#8217;s scores.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"lw_1252743800_1\" style=\"CURSOR: hand; BORDER-BOTTOM: #0066cc 1px dashed\">The Raiders<\/span> (1-0) opened the scoring late in the first quarter after<br \/>\nMichael Saiz recovered a fumbled snap inside the Condors&#8217; 30-yard<br \/>\nline.\u00a0 Four plays later, kicker Henry Calistro hit a 32-yard <span id=\"lw_1252743800_2\" style=\"CURSOR: hand; BORDER-BOTTOM: #0066cc 1px dashed\">field<br \/>\ngoal<\/span> with 3:20 left in the first quarter, giving the Raiders an early<br \/>\n3-0 lead.<\/p>\n<p>On the ensuing series, the Condors took almost five minutes to march<br \/>\n80 yards in 10 plays, culminating in a one-yard run by Terris Jones,<br \/>\ngiving Cal their only lead of the night. On the next Cal series,<br \/>\nDudley Gamino fumbled the ball after getting across mid-field, and the<br \/>\nRaiders not only recovered the ball but started their drive on the<br \/>\nCondors&#8217; 30-yard line after a 15-yard personal foul.<\/p>\n<p>Ball took seven plays to move the ball the 30 yards, setting up his<br \/>\none-yard run to regain the lead 10-7, with 3:23 left in the half.<br \/>\nAfter getting the kick off at the 35-yard line, Artiga fumbled the<br \/>\nball again as he was being chased and lineman Steven David scooped up<br \/>\nthe ball and ran 25 yards for the score, 14 seconds after the previous<br \/>\nscore.<\/p>\n<p>The score would stay 17-7 until early in the fourth quarter after<br \/>\nTyler Hadden hit a 26-yard <span id=\"lw_1252743800_3\">field goal<\/span>, closing the gap to 17-10,<br \/>\nhowever, Artiga threw his two interceptions in the second half,<br \/>\nruining the Condors&#8217; opportunities to tie the score.<\/p>\n<p>California had 209 yards in total offense, with Artiga throwing only<br \/>\nseven completions in 17 attempts for 89 yards, but threw two costly<br \/>\ninterceptions. Gamino was the leading rusher with eight carries for 39<br \/>\nyards, but both Jones and Kevin Attanasio were right behind Gamino int<br \/>\nhe rushing stats, with Jones carrying 10 times for 37 yards and<br \/>\nAttanasio carrying seven times for 35 yards.<\/p>\n<p>Rowland&#8217;s offense had 203 total yards of Offense, with Ball getting<br \/>\nsix completions in 14 attempts for 69 yards, but threw one<br \/>\ninterception late in the game. Ball also led the ground game,<br \/>\ntakingthe ball 18 times for 48 yards, including the 1-yard touchdown<br \/>\nrun.
