San Gabriel quarterback Marcus Valenzuela threw for 313 yards and four touchdowns against Baldwin Park on Friday night.<\/p><\/div>\n

(San Gabriel)-\u00a0Joseph Mayorga led San Gabriel with 200-plus all purpose yards and three touchdowns in a 41-10 victory over the visiting Baldwin Park Braves Friday night.<\/p>\n

“We felt like we had the advantage speed wise, so we felt we could get out on the perimeter on them,” said Matador HC Jude Oliva. SG certainly showed speed when on its first play of the game quarterback Marqus Valenzuela connected with Mayorga for 86 yard touchdown.<\/p>\n

Baldwin Park answered right back, on the ensuing possession quarterback Anthony Flores capped\u00a0an 18 play 67 yard drive with a one-yard QB sneak to tie the game at seven.<\/p>\n

Early in the second quarter, the Matadors were on the Brave 20 when Mayorga lined up in wildcat formation and rushed right down the middle for the 20-yard score. The Mats led 14-7<\/p>\n

BP, led by running back Niko Carravantes who had 21 carries for 80 yards, again put on a lengthy drive that was extended by an SG penalty. The drive stalled deep in Matador territory and the Braves settled with a 28-yard field goal make by Dylan Mora.<\/p>\n

“He’s one of our guys we’re leaning to be our work house,” said Oliva of his running back Mayorga.<\/p>\n

Valenzuela finished the night with 313 yards passing and four touchdowns, with the second coming late in the first half when he connected with Mayorga again – this time for a 33-yard screen for a touchdown.<\/p>\n

Down 21-10, Baldwin Park looked to build momentum before halftime with a score of their own. BP’s Flores was intercepted on their very next possession by SG’s Gabriel Larios and set up the Matadors in scoring position. Valenzuela connected with Isai Fernandez on a 32-yard touchdown pass and ended the scoring for the half. SG led 27-10.<\/p>\n

Baldwin Park\u00a0started the third quarter with the ball and a solid run game behind Carravantes. During their beginning drive, the Braves executed a fake punt to perfection and found themselves on the San Gabriel 34. Flores again was picked off and stopped his team surge.<\/p>\n

SG finished the night with two more scores and held their opponent scoreless for the remainder of the game.<\/p>\n
