With last week’s win over Schurr, they’re still breathing. Montebello’s offense was shut down in a 7-0 loss to Bell Gardens. The defense did its job but suddenly the offense was blanked. Both teams desperately need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Oiler O gets back on track.

Montebello 21 Alhambra 10

Bell Gardens (6-2) at San Gabriel (3-5)

Last Year: San Gabriel 37-31

A win for Bell Gardens here means the Lancers run the Almont table. A loss for San Gabriel and they’re making plans for the holidays. BG’s defense rose to the occasion last week. They’ll need the same type of effort this week. Expect the offense to score more than once. The Matadors are desperate but this year the Lancers are just better. Bell Gardens wins it’s fourth straight.

Bell Gardens 28 San Gabriel 14

Mission Valley League

Rosemead (3-5) at Arroyo (4-4)

Last Year: Arroyo 28-21

It’s a different type of atmosphere this year surrounding the Arroyo-Rosemead war. Usually it’s a battle for MVL supremacy, this year it’s a fight for survival. The loser is literally out of the playoffs and done for the year. Rosemead is coming off back to back losses while the Knights stumbled last week against South El Monte. It’s a tough call. One of these weeks you expect the Knights offense to wake up. You just don’t know when. Rosemead scored some points against El Monte but dropped off last week vs. Gabrielino. Arroyo has just enough offense. The Knights win an ugly one.

Arroyo 17 Rosemead 14

El Monte (6-2) at Gabrielino (7-1)

Last Year: El Monte 48-28

Anybody think the Lions will stumble? I don’t. Gabrielino will be a good test but one that El Monte will pass with flying blue and white colors. The Eagles don’t have the personnel to stay with El Monte’s skill guys. They might hang around for awhile but in the end it’s the Lions who are raising their helmets. That the Rams might be able to pull something if they punch the Titans early? Uhh..no! San Marino blitzed TC early and often and didn’t take the foot off the pedal until there was a 50 spot on the board. Now do the Titans have a shot at Monrovia? Well, yeah they have a shot, but it’s hanging somewhere between slim and none. The Wildcats are loaded and getting better every week. They would have to be caught on an off night and San Marino would have to be absolutely perfect. I don’t see it. I can’t see anybody wearing San Marino gear staying with Mason Bryant, Blake Heyworth, Anthony Craft, George Frazier, Gevontray Ainsworth, Brett Walsh, etc, etc. Matt Wofford makes a difference but the gap is still too wide.
