Following a very short retirement, weeks in length, he returned to the Rangers program as the defensive coordinator and oversaw a unit that would lead the way to the first title in school history.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In 12 games played in 2011 Nordhoff surrendered 296 points, in 14 games this fall the Rangers allowed only 162.<\/p>\n<p>By the numbers the offense turned the ball over 22 times, but Farrar&#8217;s defense had 33 take-aways: 17 interceptions and 16 fumbles. Nordhoff&#8217;s defense recorded 31 hurries, 18 sacks, defended 46 passes, blocked a punt, a kick, and pitched two shutouts. Seven times the Rangers held opponents to less than ten points.<\/p>\n<p>In the Northwest Final against North Torrance, Nordhoff&#8217;s defense held the Saxons to just 14 points. The Pioneer League champs were averaging 40 points per game coming into the contest.<\/p>\n<p>Farrar served as the Rangers head coach from 1987 to 2007. From 2008 through 2011 he led the Buena High School program. In 25 years as a head coach his career record was 171-119-2.
