Rowland’s Chris Arzadon led the way with 18 points<\/p><\/div>\n

(Covina) – Damien and Rowland both\u00a0survived close calls\u00a0to advance\u00a0to the finals of the Covina Tournament Friday night.\u00a0Damien was down by\u00a0one and at the half\u00a0and was tied at the end of three\u00a0before outscoring Cal 20-15 in the final quarter to get the five point win.<\/p>\n

Rowland\u00a0and Covina\u00a0battled each other into the fourth quarter before Rowland\u00a0finally prevailed. The Raiders hit 10 of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter to\u00a0secure a four point victory.<\/p>\n

Rowland 61 Covina 57<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rowland had three players in double figures\u00a0and the Raiders put up 20 in the fourth quarter to hold off Covina 61-57. Chris Arzadon had 18 to lead the Raiders including six in the final frame.\u00a0Joseph Dionisio had 14 and Jacky Tu added 13 with five of those coming in the fourth.<\/p>\n

Dionisio\u00a0hit three of four free throws in the\u00a0fourth quarter and Arzadon (2 for 2), Tu (2 for 2) and Jesus Hernandez (3 for 3)\u00a0were all perfect from the stripe\u00a0in the fourth.\u00a0Rowland was up 41-40\u00a0after three\u00a0before outscoring the Colts 20-16 in the last quarter.<\/p>\n

Mike Peters, as he has been\u00a0all year, was the go to guy for Covina. The senior guard\u00a0scored 24 points with eight of those coming in the fourth quarter. Peters\u00a0hit three\u00a0three pointers along the way. Matt Hicks scored 12, Blythe Curry tossed in 10 and Elias Hernandez chipped in nine.<\/p>\n

The Colts were in the hunt the entire way\u00a0and were tied \u00a0at 53 with 1:20 left in the contest. Tu hit a three pointer for Rowland but Hicks came right back with a deuce down low at the other end.\u00a0Tu followed with a pair of freee throws\u00a0to give Rowland\u00a0a 58-55 lead. After a time out, Peters missed a three but the\u00a0the Colts maintained possession and Curry scored on a lay up to cut the lead to one.\u00a0Dionisio hit two free throws, and after Peters missed a long three, he hit another one to seal the victory.<\/p>\n

Rowland will face Damien\u00a0Saturday night.<\/p>\n

Jeremy Hemsley scored 14 second half\u00a0points and a game high 23 to lead Damien to a 59-54 win over Cal.\u00a0The Condors\u00a0led 13-7 after one quarter and still held on to a one point advantage at 22-21 at the break but the Spartans came back with a 38 point second half\u00a0to get the win.<\/p>\n

Jared Dizon scored 11 for\u00a0Damien\u00a0including a pair of\u00a0long range bombs. Dizon and\u00a0Hemsley combined for\u00a013 of the 20 fourth quarter points.<\/p>\n

Andrew Garber tossed in 14 for Cal including seven in the first quarter\u00a0and Carlos Legaspy added ten.\u00a0Matt Lambrecht hit five of seven free throws\u00a0in the fourth quarter\u00a0and finished with 11 overall.<\/p>\n

The Spartans picked\u00a0up steam as the game\u00a0went along.\u00a0They started with just seven points in the first quarter\u00a0but racked up 20 in the fourth to subdue the Condors.<\/p>\n
