But Burbank put on a full court press that led to Mustang turnovers and missed shots. Meanwhile Bulldog guard Greg Salas started hitting everything he tossed up and the once 15 point comfortable lead shrunk to four at 74-70 late in the contest.

Salas hitting an array of short jump shots, threes and layups scored 18 points in the fourth quarter. He also knocked down four of four from the line sending a scare into Muir. Not until Maberry hit two free throws with five seconds left did the Mustangs breathe a sigh of relief. Burbank outscored Muir 24-15 in the fourth.

Salas only had three coming into the fourth quarter and finished as Burbank’s leading scorer with 21. Richard Elmoyan added 12 and Adam Pasco and Andy Yanikyan each chipped in eight.

After jumping out to the big first quarter lead which included a jam by Maberry, the Mustangs still led by 15 at the break. Dejon “Dada” Williams rattled home ten points in the first half including two from long distance and finished with 14. Jelani Mitchell scored eight in the second quarter to help keep Burbank at bay.

Mitchell had 15 overall joining Bynum, Maberry and Williams in double figures. Justin Bryson scored just four points for Muir but the two baskets proved to be critical coming in the fourth quarter when Burbank was making its run.

Muir improved to 10-8 overall and 3-1 in the Pacific League. Burbank fell to 1-3 in league and 9-8 on the season.

B 13 18 15 24 70

M 29 17 15 15 76

(Pasadena) – Muir jumped out to a 16 point first quarter lead but then had to survive a furious fourth quarter rally to hold off Burbank 76-70 Friday night in Pacific League action.

[3

post-30783","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-high-school-sports
["GET
