I’m really excited to call this place my home,” says Elffers. “Out of all the schools I went to Idaho, UNLV, Sacramento State, APU stepped out the most. It just shows how much I respect APU as a program and how much excellence they carry and I want to be part of a school like that. I could tell something was different at APU than all the Division I schools I went to and it’s just a place I feel like I will grow and be challenged the most and be pushed to the limit.”

APU offensive coordinator Rudy Carlton’s spread offense helped with the decision for Azusa as well. Running the spread as a sophomore in 2010 Elffers threw for over three thousand yards and 37 touchdowns.

“I want to be part of an offense where I can thrive like that. I can run and pass, I think that program fits my skills the most.”

Star News reporter Keith Lair asked if it was hard to turn down a Division I offer.

“It is, but the Lord has really opened my mind to wherever he wants to lead me.
