But Hedges was relieved\u00a0and the wheels almost came completely off.<\/p>\n<p>Hedges threw a strong seven plus innings\u00a0for the Cougars.\u00a0The sophomore from Damien High\u00a0School struck out 11, including the side in the seventh, walked three and allowed five hits. Dixie State picked up a run in the first\u00a0on two hits\u00a0but Hedges held the Red Storm to\u00a0just one hit through\u00a0the\u00a0six innings before Dixie opened the eighth with\u00a0a walk and two hits.<\/p>\n<p>After Hedges\u00a0left,\u00a0Kevin Kline hit the first pitch that Hunter Brown\u00a0threw to San Bernardino for a three run shot. A hit batter, and three straight hits cut the lead 9-7\u00a0and\u00a0spelled the end of Brown as Joel Belk\u00a0came on. Yack singled to score another on his second at bat of the inning and\u00a0Nash who had reached on an error on his second at bat\u00a0was caught between second and third for the second out. Belk then got the last two outs to end\u00a0 the inning\u00a0with\u00a0Azusa clinging to a 9-8 lead.<\/p>\n<p>Belk then got the Red Storm in order in the ninth to finish it.<\/p>\n<p>The Cougars got three runs in the second\u00a0to take a 3-1 lead and never relinquished it. Joe Huthsing doubled home two and\u00a0Tyler Putjenter had a run scoring single in the inning. They added a run in the fourth\u00a0on a base hit by Richie Brown and a double by Putjenter.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_31964\" style=\"width: 476px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/012.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31964\" class=\" wp-image-31964   \" title=\"dusty sanderson\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/012-640x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"466\" height=\"560\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-31964\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dusty Sanderson drives in the game winners!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A base knock by Dominic Biagini and consecutive singles by Matt Kimmel, Brown,\u00a0Ryan Henley\u00a0and Huthsing led to two more Cougar runs in the fifth.\u00a0In the seventh,\u00a0APU broke it wide open with three more\u00a0on doubles by Kimmel and Brown, a walk to Huthsing and a two run single by Dusty Sanderson. Sanderson&#8217;s base hit\u00a0right back up the middle, which provided the 9-1 margin, proved to be the difference when the Cougs won by a single run.<\/p>\n<p>Azusa Pacific had\u00a015 hits in all with Brown\u00a0leading the\u00a0way going four for four\u00a0with three runs scored.\u00a0Kimmel,\u00a0Huthsing and\u00a0Putjenter all had two hits apiece.<\/p>\n<p>Dixie State used four pitchers in all.
