Vaughns had three catches for 59 yards and 163 total yards. Umodu hauled in six catches for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Vaughns rushed for 104 yards and two scores on 14 carries.

Matt Fregoso, getting the bulk of the work for the injured Joey Diaz, had 29 carries for 55 yards for Rosemead. Greg Parham caught an 80 yard touchdown pass from Matt Macias early in the third for the Panthers only touchdown. Chris Cancino booted a 38 yard field goal in the second quarter to cut the Huskie lead to 14-3.

The Huskies countered with a safety, (Isaic Ramirez blocked a punt in end zone), and the two second half rushing scores from Vaughns from two and 19 yards out.

The Huskies finished with 302 total yards. The Panthers were limited to 46 total in the first half, (192 overall), and ate up a good chunk of the game clock as drives of 10, 10, and 14 plays ended in punts or stops.

Umodu caught a short two yard TD spiral from Shirley, who completed nine of 19 with an interception, in the first quarter. Later in the quarter, the Huskie defense stood tall as Nieko Padilla recorded a sack and they halted a fake punt/run play. That set up Shirley’s 55 yard TD bomb to Umodu for a 14-0 South Hills lead.

Panther linebacker Dante Galindo had a sack for a loss of six in the second while fellow defender/cornerback Matt Eddy picked off Shirley at the Rosemead 15 to stop a potential scoring pass to Umodu downfield.

R 0 3 6 0 – 9

SH 14 0 9 7 – 30

Summary:

1st Qtr

(SH 5:44 6-0/7-0) Jacob Shirley pass to Ify Umodu 2yd TD/Austin Daugherty XPT good

(SH 1:25 13-0/14-0) Shirley pass to Umodu 55yd TD/Daugherty XPT good

2nd Qtr

(R 5:55 3-14) Chris Cancino 37yd FG good

3rd Qtr

(R 10:57 9-14/9-14) Matt Macias pass to Greg Parham 80yd TD/Cancino XPT failed – wide right

(SH 5:28 16-9) Cancino punt blocked thru endzone by Isaic Ramirez for SH safety

(SH 1:45 22-9/23-9) Geoffrey Vaughns 2yd TD run/Daugherty XPT good

4th Qtr

(SH 5:20 29-9/30-9) Vaughns 19yd TD run/Daugherty XPT good

*Stat Summaries – Offense*

Quarterbacks

R: Macias 9-23-144yd-1 TD

SH: Shirley 9-19-181yd-2 TD-1 INT

Receivers

R (9-144): Parham 4-105-1 TD; Eddie Solario 2-17; Conrado Simpson 1-9; Lupe Perez 1-7; Oscar Higareda 1-6

SH (9-181): Umodu 6-122-2 TD; Vaughns 3-59

Rushers

R (38-48): Matt Fregoso 29-55; Solario 2-2; Ryan Maldonado 1-1; Higareda 1(-3); Macias 5(-7)

SH (19-121): Vaughns 14-104-2 TD; Shirley 4-18; Ronnie Tennell 1(-1)

By Corey Kwok and Jimmy Williamson (Covina District Field) – Jacob Shirley threw for 181 yards and two touchdowns to lead South Hills to a 30-9 win over Rosemead Friday night in the final non league game for both teams.

[3
581,449,899,967,1007,828
post-3383","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-high-school-sports","tag-geoffrey-vaughns","tag-greg-parham","tag-ify-umodu","tag-jacob-shirley","tag-matt-fregoso","tag-matt-macias
["GET
