Quarterback Jerry McClanahan completed 12 of 15 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown – to Anthony Avila late in the second quarter.

Amat punted in the red zone on their last drive of the half at 1:48 and it didn’t take long for the Panthers to navigate ninety yards downfield to pay dirt. Amari Staten broke loose for an 11 yard gain to set up Viramontes’ 70 yard strike to Elisha Henley with 1.6 seconds left, getting D-Ranch on the board before halftime where they trailed 28-7.

In the third quarter the Lancers picked it up again as McClanahan made an 80 yard march look easy with strikes of 22 to Rio Ruiz and 57 to the speedy Johnson who was finally pressured out of bounds at the Panther four yard line. Anderson then went into the end zone for his third score of the night.

Bishop Amat led 34-7 but took back possession in a heartbeat as Alexander Ragsdale’s kick off was too hot for a Panther return man to field. A pair of Lancers recovered it at the nine and four plays later Anderson trucked in for his fourth TD.

In the last two minutes of the contest Diamond Ranch backup quarterback Cesar Carrillo led the team down the field on a steady 91 yard journey with runs of 14, 5, and 18 yards and passes of 7, 27, and 18 to Andrew Fischer. Carrillo capped the drive with a four yard scoring run. The two point pass attempt was intercepted.

Diamond Ranch finished with 323 total yards offense to the Lancers’ 278.

Bishop Amat, keeping its perfect 5-0 record intact, has jumped into the California Top 20 and top 100 in the nation in several polls. The Lancers travel down to Santa Fe Springs next week to face long time rival St Paul.

D-Ranch will receive a much needed bye this week and then the Panthers will try to break a five game losing streak when they open up Miramonte league play against defending Southeast and league champion Charter Oak.

Overall records: Bishop Amat 5-0, Diamond Ranch 1-5

BA 7 21 13 0 – 41

DR 0 7 0 6 – 13

1ST

(10:39 BA 6-0/7-0) Darien Johnson 56 yd punt return/Alexander Ragsdale XPT good

2ND

(10:46 BA 13-0/13-0) Jay Anderson 1yd run/Ragsdale XPT good

(7:37 BA 19-0/20-0) Anderson 1yd run/Ragsdale XPT (kicked @ 15 due to false start penalty) good

(3:36 BA 26-0/28-0) Jerry McClanahan 12yd pass to Anthony Avila/2pt conversion good – McClanahan pass to Idilio Sanchez

(0:01.6 DR 6-28/7-28) Gus Viramontes 70yd pass to Elisha Henley/Jeff Stamp XPT good

3RD

(10:37 BA 34-7/34-7) Anderson 2yd run/Ragsdale XPT failed – off balanced kick fell short of goalpost

(8:41 BA 40-7/41-7) Anderson 1yd run/Ragsdale XPT good

4TH

(0:25.8 DR 13-41/13-41) Cesar Carrillo 4yd run/2pt conversion failed – Carrillo pass was intercepted

Stat Summaries

1st downs

BA 12, DR 13

Total yards, offense

BA 278, DR 323

Quarterbacks

BA: McClanahan 12 for 15, 140 yds, 1 TD

DR: Viramontes 5 for 9, 127 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT; Carrillo 3 for 5, 52 yds

Receivers

BA: Johnson 3-58; Zachary Shay 3-26; Ruiz 1-22; Patrick Gonzalez 1-19; Avila 1-12-1 TD; Anderson 1-3; Jalen Moore 2-0

DR: Henley 1-70-1 TD; Fischer 3-52; Ryan Gibson 2-34; Aaron Almond 1-14; Koree Hines 1-9

Rushers

BA (38-138): Anderson 26-110-4 TD; Shay 4-22; Moore 3-11; Damian Haynes 1-1; McClanahan 3(-1); Tyler Pruszynski 1(-5)

DR (35-144): Almond 8-44; Staten 9-42; Carrillo 4-33; Viramontes 6-26; Henley 3-3; Raymond Clarkson 1-2; Daniel Escobedo 1-1; Chris Fang 1-0; Jacoby Carter 2(-7)

By Corey Kwok (Pomona) – Bishop Amat’s Darien Johnson returned a punt 56 yards to the house for a 7-0 Bishop Amat lead just 83 seconds into the contest and the Lancers went on to a 41-13 win over Diamond Ranch Saturday night at Ganesha High.

[3
675,1139,1141,1138,1140,737,926,292
post-3417","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-high-school-sports","tag-amari-staten","tag-anthony-avila","tag-cesar-carrillo","tag-darien-johnson","tag-elisha-henley","tag-gus-viramontes","tag-jay-anderson","tag-jerry-mcclanahan
["GET
