(Arcadia) – Monrovia overwhelmed Arcadia on the turf with a ground assault of 488 yards and seven touchdowns en route to an easy 49-7 nonleague victory at
\nDick Salter Stadium.<\/p>\n
Kurt Scoby piloted the M-Town Express, rushing 12 times for 283 yards and five touchdowns for the Wildcats, whose quarterback Deshawn Potts racked up 177 all purpose yards and rushed for 114 of those, including a house call of his own for 64 yards.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Cornerback Darius McClain made many pivotal defensive contributions in the first half for Monrovia. He forced a fumble (that was recovered by Alejandro Vega) on Arcadia’s
\nsecond play from scrimmage, blocked a punt at the end of the Apaches’ second series, batted down two passes, and had an interception.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Arcadia quarterback Joey Harmon completed 15 of 31 passes for 201 yards and a touchdown.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Harmon accounted for Arcadia’s lone paydirt strike of the game hitting Nico Cantos for a 60-yard score with 8:49 remaining in the second stanza to close Monrovia’s lead to two touchdowns.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Cantos led the receiving tally with four receptions, 109 yards, and a touchdown.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Also dining in Monrovia’s feast was Kameron Johnson, who had a 19-yard reception and ran seven carries for 74 yards and a touchdown.<\/p>\n
\u2022 The Wildcats held the Apaches to 59 rushing yards with just one double-digit gain, a 12-yard scurry by Josh Yee in the first quarter. Yee was Arcadia’s leading rusher, netting 26
\nyards off six runs.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Utility two way back Robbie Hillier grounde out 10 yards, had a 10-yard reception, and a fumble recovery against Kurt Scoby in the endzone for the Apaches.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Monrovia bolted to a 21-0 first quarter lead thanks to three Scoby house calls. The defense did the rest of the talking and deprived Arcadia of a first down in the frame (Monrovia 8-0 on first downs in 1st quarter).<\/p>\n
\u2022 Monrovia stretched its perfect start to 2-0 and will host a string of quality opponents in the upcoming three weeks before commencing Rio Hondo League, beginning with homestands against San Dimas (next Friday Sep.20th), South Hills (Sep. 27th), and St. Francis (Oct. 4th).<\/p>\n
\u2022 Arcadia slipped for the first time this\u00a0season and is now 1-1. They follow with three homestands in a row, too, with one final nonleague tuneup against Azusa next Friday before opening Pacific League play with Burbank (Sep. 27th), then Hoover (Oct. 4th).
