Old school football and smash mouth!\u201d said Rosemead HC Matt Koffler when asked what he thought of the Miami Dolphins offense on Monday night.<\/span><\/p>\n Another perspective.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cSorry Joe, didn’t watch the game.\u00a0Neck deep in Rosemead game film,\u201d said Arroyo OC Chris MacMillan.<\/span><\/p>\n With USC going to Notre Dame this Saturday, hopefully to stick another fork in Charlie Weiss and the Golden Domers…Former San Gabriel linebacker Frankie Villalobos, a three-time all Mid Valley News selection, sent me his thoughts on football in South Bend as he attends Notre Dame on academic scholarship.<\/span><\/p>\n “The football games here at Notre Dame are unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. Walking into the stadium is a sight like no other, the sea of gold in the student section is amazing. There is no way you could be at a game here and not be full of energy and excitement. The intensity here just watching a game gets me more hyped up than I would get at my own football game’s in high school, it’s an amazing feeling.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThere is so much tradition that fills the stadium I’m in awe every time I walk in. Whether it rains or anything, which it has, and no matter how cold it is nobody sits down, we stand for our team the entire game no matter what, and no matter what the weather we still go all out. We take it as more than just a game,\u00a0football really is everything here, and our crowd is the best you’ll find anywhere. It really is indescribable though, you have to be at a game to know what it’s really all about.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI feel everyone should at least one time in their lives experience a ND football game, I am so glad I am able to be a part of it every week. Our chants our the best, our fight song is the best, and our fans our the best, and that is what makes Notre Dame football the best. This week against SC is going to be insane unlike any of our previous games the rivalry is huge here. It’s going to be a battle for the ages, and I think the fall of Troy is near.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n On this glorious day, one of my favorite days in history, 36-years ago the Los Angeles Rams beat the Dallas Cowboys 37-31 at the Coliseum. Rams quarterback John Hadl went to Harold Jackson four times in the first half for touchdowns as they absolutely torched Cowboys cornerback Charlie Waters (life is Good!).<\/span><\/p>\n I listened to the game with my brother, Tim Powers and, a friend from down the street, Gilbert Torres, in the back room of\u00a0our house on KMPC. Dick Enberg called the game and his description still\u00a0thrills me. \u201cHadl, play-action fake to Bertelsen, he\u2019s going long, long, long to Jackson…Touchdown!…And there are no flags on the play!\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n Enberg, that day, was as inspiring as Billy Graham.<\/span><\/p>\n Speaking of inspiring John Wooden is 99 today. So classy is this guy, that it almost makes me a UCLA fan. I can safely say when the Bruins are not playing USC I do root for them.<\/span><\/p>\n Speaking of less than inspiring, Captain Lou Albino died this morning. He was 76.<\/span><\/p>\n For what its worth; do you know that in the last six years Alhambra’s only victory over Schurr came in Week Ten of 2006.
