(Compton)- The Downey Vikings defeated the Dominguez Dons, 28-20, Friday evening at Dominguez High School. It also ensured a three-way tie at the top of the San Gabriel Valley League for the third straight year.<\/p>\n

For the second consecutive week, the kicking game proved to be the difference for the visiting Vikings.<\/p>\n

Downey scoring was provided by the normal cast of characters. Quarterback Jorge Reyna accounted for two scores\u2026one by land, an 11-yard scoring run run, and one by air, a 35-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jason Tomas. Additionally, running back Justin Huff added a 2-yard scoring run.<\/p>\n

Defense was also represented on the Vikings side of the scoreboard, with linebacker Juwan Pleze returning a recovered fumble 36-yards for the game\u2019s opening score.<\/p>\n

Where Downey had a balanced attack, Dominguez did its damage exclusively on the ground. Rushing scores by running backs Joshua Ford (7-yards), Keith Hairston (10-yards), and Henry Williams (3-yards).<\/p>\n

Penalties on two consecutive Dominguez extra point attempts resulted in one miss\u2026which proved to stall the Dons momentum and ensure a Viking Victory.<\/p>\n

*** Dons Rushing: 49 carries for 255 yards. (5.2 Yards per carry).<\/p>\n

***The halftime score was Downey 14- Dominguez 0***<\/p>\n

***Dominguez LB Samuela Niupolusa was ejected in the second quarter for<\/p>\n

Unsportsmanlike Conduct.<\/p>\n

***Not to be outdone, Downey DL Gio DeLorea was ejected in the fourth quarter, also<\/p>\n

for Unsportsmanlike conduct.<\/p>\n

***The teams combined for 130 yards in penalties, including 6 personal fouls.<\/p>\n

***Total Offense: Downey- 338 yards, Dominguez- 297 Yards.<\/p>\n

***The SGVL league, for the third consecutive year, concluded in a three way tie\u2026with<\/p>\n

Downey, Dominguez, and Paramount each sharing a portion of the league title.<\/p>\n

***Each team mentioned has a league record of 4-1.<\/p>\n

***SGVL seedings for the pending CIF playoff brackets were determined by a coin flip. Downey receives the #1 spot as the .\u00a0 \u201cOdd\u201d team in the coin flip. The #2 and #3 spots were determined by head to head competition, resulting in Dominguez receiving the second playoff spot and Paramount receiving the #3 ranking.<\/p>\n
