The Aztecs have rolled up 123 points in three league games while never being threatened. So far the Aztecs have had no trouble defending their Montview League title.

Gladstone hasn’t been bad either. The Gladiators are 2-0 in league and have lost only once all year. Quarterback Paul Flores is having a big year and is coming off of a four touchdown performance last week against Duarte.

The Gladiators might test Azusa early but eventually the Aztecs will wear them down. Azusa comes out on top.

Azusa 35 Gladstone 21

Baldwin Park (5-1) at Pomona (5-1) Ganesha High School

Last Year: Pomona 24-21

This is a real interesting matchup. Both teams are 5-1 and coming off big victories in league. BP took care of Covina while Pomona was running past Northview. The scary thing about the Red Devils as far as the Braves are concerned is their speed. Taj Teague, Darrian Lewis and Jamal Overton all have break away wheels.

Baldwin Park’s defense has been playing well. The Braves have only allowed three touchdowns total in its last three games.

Pomona is definitely a playoff contender in the Valle Vista. But the Devils could still be a step behind San Dimas and Baldwin Park. Braves win in the fourth quarter.

Baldwin Park 21 Pomona 14

Friday October 23

El Monte (0-6) at South El Monte (1-5)

Last Year: El Monte 21-14

All-Time: South El Monte 12-3

It’s been a disappointing campaign so far for both teams. South finally picked up its first win last week while the Lions are still on the outside looking in. The Eagles had some players out early but everybody is expected back for this one.

El Monte’s playoff shot may have gone out the window with a loss to Gabrielino a week ago, but a win here could put them back in the hunt. Manuel Santa Cruz has apparently replaced Quang Phong at quarterback and has given the Lions a spark.

El Monte finally tastes the fruits of victory.

El Monte 17 South El Monte 14

Gabrielino (2-4) at Arroyo (4-2)

Last Year: Arroyo 16-13

All-Time: Arroyo 9-2

It wasn’t pretty but the Knights got the win they needed last week against Rosemead. Their line needs to get better and their offense needs to get sharper. That being said they still should beat Gabrielino.

The Eagles win over El Monte last week was huge. It gave them an inside track to a post season spot. All they would have to do is beat South El Monte and Mt. View. I think they will beat those two but I don’t think they will beat Arroyo. Knights advance to 2-0 in league.

Arroyo 24 Gabrielino 13

Mt. View (0-6) at Rosemead (1-5)

Last Year: Rosemead 59-6

All-Time: Rosemead 32-3

The Panthers have to be the best 1-5 team in the Mid Valley. They fell to Arroyo by only two a week ago. The Knights have been in the top five all year. That’s the only league game the Panthers will lose all year.

A four game wining steak and a second place finish starts with a win over the Vikings. The View could be facing a winless season.

Rosemead 42 Mt. View 6

La Puente (5-2) at Bassett (3-3)

Last Year: La Puente 20-14

The Olympians have come crashing down to earth once league started. LP looked good until it met Azusa but the Warriors did bounce back last week with big win over Workman.

Bassett has to win this game in order to have a shot at post season. An 0-3 hole would be too much to crawl out of. La Puente looks second best right now. The Warriors should stay there after they take care of Bassett.

La Puente 24 Bassett 7

Sierra Vista (3-3) at Workman (4-2)

Last Year: Sierra Vista 27-14

It’s another Montview League contest in which both teams really need a win to stay in the picture. They’re both 1-1 in league coming in. Workman has been relying on Kalin Bradford to carry the load and he’s been doing the job. But he could use some help.

Sierra Vista has a good quarterback in Mark Perez but he might not be enough. Workman will pound Bradford until the end. Lobos win.

Workman 21 Sierra Vista 13

Blair (0-6) at La Canada (2-3)

Last Year: La Canada 33-0

The Vikings have been shutout three times and had scored only eight points in their first five games. They had a shot last week against South Pasadena but fell a touchdown short.

La Canada still has playoff aspirations under first year Coach Dan Yoder. The Spartans fell to Temple City a week ago but three wins in the Rio Hondo would get them in. It will start here against Blair.

La Canada 35 Blair 6

Monrovia (6-0) at Temple City (3-2-1)

Last Year: Monrovia 13-7

All-Time: Temple City 14-12-1

Common Opponents: Monrovia 27 Arcadia 13, Temple City 28 Arcadia 28

Monrovia 33 Rosemead 7, Temple City 27 Rosemead 13

Monrovia 48 La Salle 14, Temple City 42 La Salle 20

After Monrovia’s close call with San Marino and Temple City’s third straight victory this suddenly looks like a good game. Both teams have been playing well offensively. The Wildcats running attack with Nick Bueno and company might be the best in the area while the Rams passing game with Justin Smith is getting better every week.

The key will be who plays better defense. Temple City’s D has allowed nearly twice as many points as Monrovia’s. In five of their six games the Rams have given up 20 or more.

Monrovia’s ground attack could be too much for TC. The Rams could come up with a couple of big plays but ultimately the Cats will prevail.

Monrovia 28 Temple City 21

San Marino (5-1) at South Pasadena (2-4)

Last Year: San Marino 31-7

Titans fell to Monrovia by a deuce. A win there puts them in the top spot in the Mid Valley Division. South Pasadena’s two wins have come at the expense of Blair and Keppel. San Marino rolls.

San Marino 38 South Pasadena 3

Covina (2-4) at San Dimas (5-1)

Last Year: San Dimas 35-27

San Dimas stumbled one once all year but that was to top ranked Monrovia. Don’t expect it to happen again. Covina fell last week to Baldwin Park which looks like the second best team in the Valle Vista. San Dimas looks like the best.

Covina will have trouble stopping Tre Evans, Ryan Kohler and company. Saints get the win.

San Dimas 35 Covina 14

Northview (1-5) at Ganesha (0-6)

Last Year: Northview 38-7

It’s been a struggle for Jim Arellanes’ Vikes but this is a team they will beat. The Giants are still a year or two …or three away.
