(El Monte) – Joseph “The Count” Mayorga set a school record for\u00a0most yards\u00a0rushing in a game as he racked up 322\u00a0to lead San Dimas to a 61-28 rout of Arroyo Friday night\u00a0in the CIF Mid-Valley Divsion Semi Finals. Mayorga scored\u00a0four touchdowns and also had a 78-yard run down to\u00a0the two-yard line.<\/p>\n

Fausto Martinez also\u00a0rushed for 215 yards and two scores as the Saints accumulated\u00a0627 yards\u00a0yards on the ground total. Manny Elizalde added\u00a078 yards and two\u00a0touchdowns.<\/p>\n

***Arroyo scored first on a one yard run by Randy Amezcua.\u00a0Amezcua scored twice for the Knights and\u00a0rushed for 78 yards overall.<\/p>\n

***San Dimas came right back to tie it at seven and needed only four plays to go 68 yards. Mayorga scored on an 18 yard run.<\/p>\n

***The Knights had their\u00a0last lead of the game at 14-7\u00a0when they used some trickery.\u00a0Quarterback Nathan Coto threw to\u00a0Jesus Calvillo\u00a0in the flat who hit David Cotero for a 33 yard touchdown pass.<\/p>\n

***San Dimas scored three straight\u00a0touchdowns to go up 28-14 at the half. Mayorga’s 37 yard run put San Dimas up for good at 21-14.<\/p>\n

***Saint quarterback Johs Avila\u00a0threw one pass and it was a\u00a045 yard touchdpown strike to\u00a0Noah Reep to tie the game at 14.<\/p>\n

***Arroyo cut the lead to 35-28 in the third quarter but the\u00a0Saints scored the last four touchdowns of the game to\u00a0turn it into a rout.<\/p>\n

***San Dimas turned the ball over twice on fumbles while\u00a0Arroyo\u00a0turned it over just once – a Coto interception in the fourth quarter by\u00a0Erick\u00a0Ware.<\/p>\n

***Coto threw for 201 yards, 1 TD \u00a0and\u00a0an interception.<\/p>\n

***San Dimas scored\u00a0on nine of its 12 possessions.<\/p>\n

***Cotero caught\u00a0six passes for 99 yards and\u00a0two touchdowns for Arroyo.<\/p>\n

*** “I’m really proud of our guys and we battled the whole way.\u00a0But we just couldn’t stop them. They do what they do and they do it very well.\u00a0It didn’t matter what defense we\u00a0had out there , we couldn’t stop them,” said Arroyo Coach Jim Singiser.<\/p>\n

*** “You have to be able to run the ball in the playoffs and\u00a0we were able to do that.\u00a0The kids did a good job,” said San Dimas Coach Bill Zernickow.<\/p>\n

***\u00a0The Saints will host Paraclete in the Mid-Valley Divsion Finals.\u00a0The Spirits knocked off defending champion Monrovia\u00a022-21 at home.<\/p>\n

***Arroyo finished the season at\u00a011-2 and is able to boast about an MVL title and\u00a0a semi final appearance for the\u00a0first time since 2004.<\/p>\n

***The 61 points was only the second highest output for San Dimas this year.\u00a0The Saints scored 70 against Baldwin Park\u00a0on October 11.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
