El Monte Lion Adrian Castro<\/p><\/div>\n

(El Monte) – El Monte football player Adrian\u00a0Castro was killed Thursday\u00a0when a\u00a0bus he was riding on carrying students\u00a0up to Humboldt State\u00a0collided with a Fed Ex freight truck in Northern California.<\/p>\n

Castro was one of ten people\u00a0killed when the Fed Ex truck\u00a0crossed a median on Interstate 5 and slammed\u00a0into the bus filled with at least 19 other Los Angeles Unified students. The victims\u00a0included five students, three chaperones, the bus driver and the driver of the truck. The accident occurred\u00a0shortly after 5:30 p.m Thursday near Orland, California.<\/p>\n

There were three\u00a0El Monte High School students on the bus. The other two have been hospitalized\u00a0and are being treated for injuries.<\/p>\n

Castro played on the El Monte varisty roster for the last two years.<\/p>\n

“Adrian Castro will be missed\u00a0as a student and football player. He was a good young man with a bright future. He will always be remembered by the El Monte family,” said El Monte head coach\u00a0Joel Sanchez.<\/p>\n

“I want to pay my respects to Adrian Castro. He was a student and an athlete. He was going on a visit to a university to continue his education. He will be missed,” said El Monte High teacher and long\u00a0time area football coach Ted Clarke.<\/p>\n

El Monte offenisve coordinator Brian Tabatabai also expressed his sentiments.<\/p>\n

“Adrian Castro was a rock star student who had a bright future.\u00a0It was an honor to be his teacher and coach.\u00a0I’m a better man for it,”\u00a0Tabatabai said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
