Does this also mean you will no longer cover Diamond Bar and Bonita if they are not put in the Southeast?

Knew this question was coming. Recap of Mid Valley Sports history shows we started with the Mission Valley League and Temple City football. Then we added Monrovia and Arcadia the next year. Then San Gabriel and Alhambra the year after that. Finally, we added Duarte to round out what became our Old School 12.

When the divisional realignments hit going into the 2006 season and and they took into account the geography we began to expand. Financially things were good, new writers came on board, we struck the mother lode with a slew of great interns.

By the time 2009 came around we covered the Mid-Valley and Southeast Divisions, roughly 66 schools. Then before 2012 there was another divisional adjustment. The Alpha League featuring Paraclete was moved into the Mid-Valley while the Montview and the Olympic were booted to the Northwest.

Many thought we were going to let it ride and just stick to the two divisions, but we’d spent too much time getting to know both Maranatha and Whittier Christian, as well as the Montview teams, to give them up. So we expanded to three divisions.

Expanding west has been easy. I’ve got connections in Burbank. Going north we’ve had connections down the 126 and on up to Santa Barbara. Paraclete has always been MVS friendly, and the 605 corridor, going south, has been gold for us thanks to the coaches and fans in the Del Rio, Suburban, and San Gabriel Valley leagues…and the work of Big Tony (Now living in the Garden State).

Going east, towards the IE, is something different. We didn’t follow Charter Oak and South Hills when they were exiled. Oh we kept tabs, but we really didn’t follow them. So when this Palomares-Hacienda League swap of schools (which doesn’t make any sense to us…at least on a football level) occurred we’ve been stressed at the office about what to do.

Peterson has made some great connections with Diamond Bar, and we’ve always felt a good kinship with Bonita. So to say goodbye to them would suck, but moving east for us would be really hard.

So the idea of the Palomares being moved into the Southeast is exciting to us, but not if it means the Suburban or San Gabriel Valley get shown the door. My preference is for the Palomares to come in and the Del Rio to get shipped to the Mid-Valley.

The Alpha can then be moved to the Northwest to replace the Tri-Valley, which some up the coast believe will be moved up a division because of Nordhoff and Bishop Diego’s success.

That’s my perfect world. The guys we picked up to work with us a few years ago were the exception, not the rule, and trying to find replacements for them has been next to impossible. As with most media outlets finances are flatlined…so to add a fourth division means over a hundred schools to connect with…that could be tougher than getting Peterson to open his wallet for lunch.

Then again…how fun would it be to be called “Mid Valley SoCal”? “Mid Valley Southland”? Four divisions, 130 schools, another jump in analytics,…yeah, a fourth division might be alright…

Regards:

In regards to “24” being back: At first it was cool, and then it seemed like any old episode of “24” where Jack asks Chloe to hack into a system.

In regards to what is happening in the San Joaquin Valley: Turn the water back on and the “drought” will be over.

In regards to the NFL Draft: It can’t get here soon enough.
