First Year Monrovia HC Chris Stevens<\/p><\/div>\n

(Monrovia) –\u00a0Monrovia\u00a0lost running back\u00a0Kurt Scoby to graduation,\u00a0the\u00a0projected\u00a0starter at quarterback transferred\u00a0to St. Francis and the Wildcats were moved to the Central Divsion where they will have to contend with the likes of teams in the\u00a0Mt. Baldy, Palomares and Hacienda Leagues. But for\u00a0new Monrovia head coach\u00a0Chris Stevens it’s a great opportunity.<\/p>\n

The Cats will rely heavily on Kameron Johnson<\/p><\/div>\n

“I heard that Ryan (Maddox) stepped down and\u00a0I couldn’t believe it.\u00a0 I was like no this can’t be true,” Stevens said.\u00a0“I had to call Ryan\u00a0and ask him is this true?\u00a0So of course I threw my hat in the ring and here we are.\u00a0I’m inheriting a very good program. It’s going great so far. I’m excited to be here.”<\/p>\n

Stevens is coming off a sucessful run at Ontario Christian but is now jumping\u00a0into a team that has had unbelievable run over the last five years. Monrovia won three Mid-Valley Divsion championships and appeared in four straight title games\u00a0under Maddox before being knocked out\u00a0in the semis last year by Paraclete. Although they did lose Scoby\u00a0and some other key\u00a0starters the cupboard is hardly bare.<\/p>\n

Christian Walton leads the Bubbas<\/p><\/div>\n

Kameron Johnson\u00a0returns\u00a0at running back and\u00a0brings\u00a0609 yards and 9 touchdowns from 2013 with him. Octavius Spencer and Jordan Nathan who both had over 100 yards last year\u00a0are expected to make big plays at receiver and junior Asaph\u00a0Zamora is ready to step in at quarterback.<\/p>\n

Defensively keep an eye on\u00a0corner James Jackson, DL Christian Walton and\u00a0Eric Brooks. Big plays?\u00a0Khalil Bradley! Monrovia is the class of the Rio Hondo but the question on the minds of the Monrovia faithful can they compete in the Central. With the\u00a0talent\u00a0the Wildcats have, they’ll compete. The Cats always do.<\/p>\n
