1. Former Dodger\/Oakland A’s pitcher Bob Welch dies of an apparent heart attack at the age of 57. Welch’s most memorable Dodger moment was when as a 21 year old rookie he struck out the Yankees’ Reggie Jackson to close out Game Two of the 1978 World Series. He went on to win the Cy Young Award with Oakland in 1990 going 27-6 with a 2.95 ERA.<\/p>\n

2. Derek Fisher is set to sign a five-year, $25 million deal to coach the New York Knicks. Fisher’s relationship with Knick President Phil Jackson was the driving factor that led him to New York.<\/p>\n

3. Kawhi Leonard scores a career high 29 points to lead the Spurs to a 111-92 win over Miami and a 2-1 series lead in the NBA Finals.<\/p>\n

4. Baltimore’s Manny Machado is suspended five games and fined an undisclosed amount for throwing his bat in Sunday’s game against Oakland.<\/p>\n

5. Monrovia’s Cravon Gillespie, Aubrey Mosely, Octavius Spencer and Seth Raines officially became the fastest men in school history last weekend when they ran a 41:43 in the 4 x 100 relay. The foursome broke a 32 year old Monrovia record set by Billy Hale, Kennedy Bryant, LaShawn Wells and Eric Coleman who ran a 41:49 in 1982.<\/p>\n

6. Former Temple City National Dodger catcher Jerry McClanahan is the catcher for UC Irvine, which is participating in the College World Series.<\/p>\n

7. The late great Green Bay Packer Coach Vince Lombardi was born on this day in 1913. Also happy birthday to Joe Montana who turns 58 today.<\/p>\n
