Saints gearing up for opening night<\/p><\/div>\n

San Dimas is solid in the Mid-Valley Division. Thank you Captain Obvious. San Dimas is always solid in the Mid-Valley.\u00a0But the feeling among some is that\u00a0with Monrovia being shipped to the Central\u00a0all the Saints have to do is show up and they\u00a0can cruise to their second straight Mid-Valley title.<\/p>\n

\"Running<\/a>

Running back Manny Elizalde<\/p><\/div>\n

San Marino, another former Mid-Valley contender, also goes with the Rio Hondo and you have to search the\u00a0division to find a team that can beat the\u00a0Saints. Paraclete? San Dimas beat the Spirits last year.\u00a0Arroyo? The Saints dropped sixty on the Knights in the playoffs. The Pomona Red Devils ? New league but San Dimas never had a problem with them before.\u00a0Azusa in the Montview? Anybody in the\u00a0Almont? I like Montebello but could the Oilers\u00a0stay with San Dimas?<\/p>\n

Predictions usually die in previews. That’s\u00a0true. And the Saints look great on paper but as we know the game isn’t played on paper.\u00a0But the truth\u00a0is San Dimas\u00a0won it last year,\u00a0and in a somewhat weaker division Bill Zernickow’s\u00a0crew are the favorites\u00a0to win it again.<\/p>\n

I’m Bobby Rios and you’re not<\/p><\/div>\n

Andrew Avila steps\u00a0in at quarterback and will do what a San Dimas quarterback always does – manage the game, hand the ball off and make the occasional big throw.\u00a0Manny Elizalde returns at running back and is lightning to the thunder of his backfield partner\u00a0Bobby Rios. Rios put a hit on a Diamond Ranch defender in a scrimmage Friday night that could be heard\u00a0down at the Pomona Fairgrounds. Rios will play defensive line\u00a0as well.<\/p>\n

Speaking of lightning keep an eye on receiver Chris Rufus.\u00a0Don’t blink though or you’ll miss him.\u00a0Rufus\u00a0will also line up\u00a0at cornerback.<\/p>\n

\"Had<\/a>

Had to catch Chris Rufus (#2) while he was standing still<\/p><\/div>\n

Defensively\u00a0Youssef Hannah (6-2, 260) anchors a front that is poised to do some damage.\u00a0Matthew Sotelo, OL\/DL is\u00a06-5, 290. Josiah Erickson\u00a0will patrol the middle of the field at linebacker and Chris Salcido and Erik Ware (safety) will join Rufus in the secondary.<\/p>\n

Can the Saints be beat? Of course anybody can be but it will be no easy task.\u00a0 And chasing the goal\u00a0of a repeat makes San Dimas that much hungrier.<\/p>\n

We’ll find out how good the Saints\u00a0are right away. Monrovia is coming to town\u00a0next week.<\/p>\n
