These Mission Valley League quarterbacks aren\u2019t in any ranking order or listed by ability or talent. It is an interesting group however. Some are returning and some aren\u2019t. Some have received a lot of ink already this summer while others haven\u2019t caused a blip. Here we go:<\/p>\n

\"Steven<\/a>

Steven Nava back in the Mead fold<\/p><\/div>\n

Arroyo: Chaz Miller, Sr<\/strong>. \u2013 First year quarterback who has been sitting behind Nathan Coto for the last two years. He hasn\u2019t had much in game experience but as much as Arroyo participates in passing leagues he\u2019s had a ton of throws. Quarterbacks seem to develop quickly under the tutelage of OC Chris MacMillan and HC Jim Singiser. Miller looks like he\u2019s ready to go.<\/p>\n

Rosemead<\/strong>: Steven Nava, Jr<\/strong>. \u2013 Maybe the most heralded of the MVL quarterbacks because of all of the transfer drama. Now that the dust has settled Nava seems to be exactly where he should be. A returning quarterback, Nava threw for 1200 yards and 13 touchdowns last year in eight games. Will Nava\u2019s transferring back into the fold create any dissension among teammates? Probably not, because Nava wants to be a Panther and they realize that hey, the kid\u2019s pretty good. Nava attended numerous camps during the off season and definitely gives Rosemead a shot in the arm.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Gabrielino: Eli Peters, Sr.<\/strong> \u2013 Peters is not just returning but is entering his third year as the Eagles starting quarterback. Peters lit it up last year throwing for over 2100 yards and 26 touchdowns with just four picks. Some claim that Peters, not Nava, is the best quarterback in the league. Athletic as they come, he excels in basketball as well; Peters also rushed for 427 yards in 2013 and scored nine touchdowns. Make no mistake with Peters behind center, Gabrielino is a contender.<\/p>\n

\"El<\/a>

El Monte QB Edward Dominguez<\/p><\/div>\n

South El Monte<\/strong>: Jaime Michel, Jr.<\/strong> \u2013 Michel didn\u2019t start off last year as the starting quarterback at South but he definitely finished that way. He returns as the guy from the get go in 2014 after putting up decent numbers last year. He completed 177 passes for 752 yards and five TDs. He did throw 10 interceptions however and that could be a concern for HC Ibis Aguilar and staff. Being the starter from day one should help Michel significantly in confidence and poise. For South to return to contention (2-8 last year) Michel will need to have a big year. “Jaime has worked extremely hard in the off season and has improved tremendously\u00a0as a result. At 6-2, 200 lbs he can throw it or run it. He’s stronger and faster. He’s got the offense down and has been making better decisions as the spring and summer progressed,” Aguilar said. “He’s becoming a leader and is really starting to take charge of the offense.\u00a0I’m excited to see what he does this season as a junior.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

El Monte: Edward Dominguez, Jr<\/strong>. \u2013 Dominguez had to sit out five games last year after transferring in but still managed to put up some numbers passing for 1130 yards and five touchdowns. This year he will be on the field from opening night on which will give the Lions a boost. At 6-3, Dominguez has the ability to see over the line and pick out his receivers. In the MVL, a tall QB is a luxury that most coaches don\u2019t have. Potentially Dominguez has the talent to do some big things.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mt. View: Luis Mora, Sr<\/strong>. \u2013 Mora is a first year starter for the Vikings and will do what Mt. View quarterbacks usually do under Victor Ambruso \u2013 hand the ball off or run it himself. Let\u2019s just say that the Vikes aren\u2019t a team that lives and dies through the air. Last year Mt. View rushed for 2978 yards and 35 touchdowns while passing for 594 and 10. So you get the idea. The quarterback does need to be athletic though in Ambruso\u2019s schemes \u2013 a guy that enjoys pulling it up and running and taking a hit now and then. In Mora, the Vikings seem to have found exactly that.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Marshall: Andrew Kaanamu, So. – <\/strong>First year\u00a0starter who took over for the graduated Christian Clark. A lefthander who can do some good things when given time.\u00a0Only a sophomore Kaanamu will need some time to get his feet wet. Looked good against San Gabriel in a scrimmage last week.\u00a0Marshall is still in the rebuilding process but if Kaanamu\u00a0can start over the next three years it would be huge for the program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
