Former Verbum Dei standout Reggie Dunn was released by the Arizona Cardinals on Monday. Dunn rushed for 97 yards, rushed for a touchdown, and caught three passes, one for a touchdown, in the Eagles, 32-10, 2006 title game victory over La Salle. He played three years for Utah before going undrafted in 2013.<\/p>\n

I learned and have a long memory about what happens when I pick against Arroyo…It\u2019s not about getting cursed at by \u201cHis Arroyo Baldness\u201d, he\u2019ll curse me after a win, before a loss, and when picking post season all star teams. I\u2019m used to it.<\/p>\n

What happens when I pick against Arroyo is they generally stick it to me and end up winning. So I\u2019m hesitant to say this but I think they\u2019re going to get blown out at San Marino Friday night and I think it is foolish to just say they are going to win another Mission Valley League title.<\/p>\n

…But I\u2019ve bet against them before and I ended up looking foolish. This goes back before the Jim Singiser days, when I picked them to lose to El Monte in Week Ten of 2001 season. They not only beat El Monte, 17-0, they did it with a quarterback who did not wear number 10, and I had to interview D.J. \u201cPlease to meet you, hope you guess my name\u201d MacKinnon after the game.<\/p>\n

Former San Gabriel HC Keith Jones, the OC on Rick Zepeda\u2019s staff at St. Paul has stepped away due to a health condition. Former San Gabriel DC Donald Bernard, also a member of the Swordsmen staff, will step into the position for now.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve argued St. Paul might be a better fit in the South Catholic League these days as they do have to knock heads with the rest of the Angelus League. Like Arcadia in the Pacific, this might be a good team that gets squashed not because they are lousy but because the league they are in so good.<\/p>\n

Quarterback Jake Maier has a gun for an arm and is experienced. He\u2019s got a hands-man in Ryan Rendich. Developing story of interest is tackle Michael Bautista. The junior goes 6\u20194-320 and if he has a motor the Swordsmen might find some success after going 1-9 in 2013.<\/p>\n

Want something else to keep an eye on? Try the Ontario Jaguars. No they are not going to win the Mt. Baldy League. They went 1-9 in 2013 and have changed head coaches. So what is there to watch? The Jaguars (that\u2019s a fresh team name) face Gary, Bloomington and Nogales the first three weeks of the season. The schools went a combined 5-25 last year.<\/p>\n

Ontario, with a lot of beef in the trenches (Yoshi Urrutia, Travis Duran, Casey Zendejas, Tyler Baeza), could start off 3-0. So keep them in view.<\/p>\n

Last Add Arroyo-San Marino:<\/span><\/strong> These two schools have split six contests, but they have not met since October 8th, 1965. That\u2019s right. San Marino has regularly played Rosemead, Rosemead has regularly played Temple City, and Temple City has regularly played Arroyo…but the Knights and Titans have not met in 49 years.<\/p>\n

Now on that night San Marino\u2019s Geff Clinton scored two touchdowns and Rich Haley added a third in a 21-7 victory at home. Haley would leave with a serious knee injury late in the second quarter. Arroyo\u2019s lone score came in the first quarter on a 53-yard touchdown pass from Pete Nielsen to John Granados.<\/p>\n
