Real life is much better than fantasy…

Does anyone know what happened on September 19th, 2014…a lot of stuff but in the second quarter of its game against Cantwell, Mary Star of The Sea scored a touchdown.

No big deal, except when you realize those were the last points the Cardinals defense surrendered this season. They’ve played the last 18 quarters of football (including four shutouts in a row) without giving up any points.

Last Add Cantwell: Six wins, five by shutout. They’ve collected 22 sacks, 12 interceptions, five fumbles, blocked a punt and field goal in the process.

How much are the Kansas City Royals paying James Shields to be “Their Guy” again?

I bet none of you (I know we didn’t) thought Gladstone would be on the verge of going the 3-0 in Montview League play and fast tracking into third place? The Gladiators lost their first five games, but have countered with consecutive wins against Workman and Duarte. Thursday they get a 1-6 Sierra Vista team. In a standard five league conference third place would put them in the post-season…but with six leagues in the Mid-Valley a third place showing doesn’t guarantee you anything but a cup of coffee and a kick in the pants.

Don’t understand the hammering of Kobe Bryant of late. He might be a jerk, but the Lakers don’t win five titles without him. Shaq would never have picked three rings without him. And it was the Lakers themselves who were stupid enough to break the bank for I guy with busted wheels and bald tires when they gave him the new contract last year.

All I can say right now about the Crescenta Valley-Muir game this week is do not discount the Falcons defense.

Is James Shields out of the first inning yet?

I’m a little worried about San Dimas, I think Covina can take them. So Saints fans, I understand the heart of a champion talk, but Joe Benavidez and Pearnell Smalley have the Colts offense clicking. That means they are going to run the ball, and the minute you compensate for Smalley they are going to go to Eric “Pooh” Williams.

Last Add C-Town: They have the second highest scoring offense in the Mid-Valley Division (Colts opponents are a combined 25-24 on the season).

Has anyone every seen the punt return scheme the St. Louis Rams pulled on the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday? I’ve spent the last forty years of my life watching football and had never seen anything like it.

NorRock has made a karma move…but they are going to need to do it on the field against Bellflower this week. The Bucs are fighting for post-season life and the Lancers are without Chris Walker

Gabrielino has not beaten Arroyo since 2001 (losing 12 straight) and they have never beaten the Knights on their own campus, but if there was every a moment this is it. An Eagles victory improves them to 4-4 and 3-2 in the Mission Valley League. A win on Friday night means the last two games of the season (Pasadena Poly & El Monte) take on serious significance. If Harold Sanin’s crew can win three straight, they pretty much control their own destiny.

Last Add Arroyo-Gabrielino: Remember when this game was bloodsport. In 2000 at ELAC the Eagles ended the Knights five year, unbeaten, MVL run. They beat them the following year at Bergstrom and when the two teams collided ten years ago (Yesterday/10/21/2004) the rivalry was at its peak. Arroyo won (28-6) and went to the semis…Gabrielino lost and the program went into a tailspin. The Eagles didn’t make it back to post season until last fall.

Regards:

In regards to Michael Sam: He might want to consider Canada.

In regards to the La Canada Defense: We’ll find out how good this week against San Marino.

In regards to Dominguez: HC Keith Donnerson has been on administrative leave for ten days, but the Dons keep winning. “They scare me,” said one 605 area coach.

In regards to Bell Gardens: “At this point and time, my dark horse prediction is Bell Gardens. They played upper divisions and have a balanced attack but we’ll see if they can get by schurr. They (BG) seem to be creeping around quietly not attracting a lot of attention and may take some teams by surprise in the playoffs who haven’t scouted them.”—MVS commenter “clete”

In regards to Heritage-Maranatha: Natha.

The Dude abides…

588

Psalms 73:21-24

Contact Joe at joe@midvalleysports.com
“Joe T.’s Scoreboard” is found at www.midvalleynews.com every Wednesday & in the hard copy of the Mid Valley News, published every Wednesday
Follow Joe on Twitter @joet13b
Listen to “The Joe Show” every Wednesday (6 & 6:30 P.M.) at www.midvalleyradio.net
LIKE “The Joe Show” on Facebook
“The Mid Valley Sports Show” is LIVE every Tuesday (7:PM) at www.midvalleysports.com (Click on “UStream” button)

“Hate gets home lucky to still be alive.
