On this date in 2005 South El Monte went to Westminster and took a 38-28 victory from the Lions to advance to the semifinals for the first (and only) time in school history. Joe Morales and Tommy Cogburn each scored a pair of touchdowns to aid the Southman cause.<\/p>\n

At Bergstrom, on the same night, South Hills was getting an epic 19 of 22 for 259-yard performance from quarterback Kevin Mort and three touchdowns out of Marquies Winbush in the Huskies 35-14 victory over Arroyo. The contest was a rematch of the previous season\u2019s semifinal, which South Hills also won.<\/p>\n

On this date in 1988 San Marino\u2019s defense delivered its sixth shutout of the year in a 7-0 victory over Verbum Dei. The Titans Jerry Dietrick carried the ball 13 times for 133-yards, but it was the defense that Dietrick\u2019s 12-yard touchdown run in the first quarter stand up. With Dei deep in SM territory with seconds to play they forced a fumble to preserve the win, advanced to the next round, and eventually to a CIF championship.<\/p>\n

And in the \u201cHow Times Have Changed\u201d Dept.: On this night in 1966 10,000 people crowded into the Rose Bowl to see Blair beat St. Francis 13-0. The Vikings first score was set up when safety Ed Kaleef intercepted a halfback option pass thrown by St. Franks Jim Zant. Blair quarterback Don Autry scored the first of his two touchdowns on a 1-yard less than four minutes into the contest. Kaleef picked off a second pass in the fourth quarter and Autry, who rushed for 107-yards on 20-carries, capitalized on it with a 3-yard run.<\/p>\n
