San Dimas HC Bill Zernickow steps down after a ten year run<\/p><\/div>\n

(San Dimas) \u2013 Bill Zernickow, who has been the head coach at San Dimas for the last ten years, has stepped down. He advised his players of his decision Monday.<\/p>\n

Zernickow cited family as one of the reasons for his decision. \u201cI’m going to look at new challenges professionally as well as enjoy the last few years as my kids are still in the house,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Zernickow took over in 2005 and San Dimas\u00a0went 3-7 missing the playoffs. That was the last time San Dimas missed the post season under Zernickow’s reign. Over the next nine years the Saints won two CIF titles, lost in the semi finals three times and in the second round twice.<\/p>\n

In 2009\u00a0San Dimas beat Monrovia 12-7 in a driving rainstorm at Citrus College to win the Mid-Valley Division championship. Last year the Saints won their second title under Zernickow beating Paraclete 20-14 at San Dimas.<\/p>\n

Zernickow’s career record at San Dimas was 87-36 (16-7 in post season.) This year the Saints beat Baldwin Park in the first round before falling to Pomona in round two finishing 8-4 overall.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s been fun,\u201d Zernickow added.<\/p>\n

San Dimas will begin the search for a new head coach immediately.<\/p>\n
