{"id":4562,"date":"2009-12-01T23:53:48","date_gmt":"2009-12-02T06:53:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=4562"},"modified":"2009-12-02T00:58:28","modified_gmt":"2009-12-02T07:58:28","slug":"4562","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?p=4562","title":{"rendered":"Lancers Open Season with Win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(Sierra Madre, Ca) \u2013 The La Salle girls\u2019 soccer team began their quest for a CIF-SS title with a convincing 2-0 win over Monrovia in non-league play.<\/p>\n<p>The Lancers were impressive on offense and defense against a young Lady Wildcats team that was playing their second game in two nights.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like the depth and hunger of this team,\u201d said Lancer head coach Edgar Manvelyan.\u00a0 \u201cI can be real creative rotating players in different positions and not have to worry about a drop off in talent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>La Salle striker Ally Puga was in the right place on a cross from Kelli Matsumoto.\u00a0 Puga was able to fire off a shot that was stopped by Sarah Wallich, but battled to get the rebound for a goal in the 25<sup>th<\/sup> minute.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Three minutes later, Nicole Arevalo was able to head a shot past Wallich on a wonderful cross from Taylor Mediano from the left corner.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Lancers could have easily put the game away in the second half if not for the brilliant play of Wallich in the nets making an incredible point-blank save on Puga and Matsumoto.\u00a0\u00a0 Wallich made 18 saves during the match.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Monrovia had two chances to get on the board in the 70<sup>th<\/sup> minute when Riley Ward took a shot from the left side of the penalty box.\u00a0 In the 73<sup>rd<\/sup> minute Tyler Shirk was stopped by freshman goal keeper Cassidy Rey (eight saves).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe brought some young girls up,\u201d said Lady Wildcat head coach Jamie Payne.\u00a0 \u201cThe team lost four to graduation.\u00a0 I made sure we stacked the schedule with tough teams to get ready for league. \u201c<\/p>\n<p>La Salle improves to 1-0, while Monrovia is now 0-2 after opening the season with a loss to Westridge 3-2.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Monvrovia\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 0<\/p>\n<p>La Salle\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 2\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 2<\/p>\n<p>Scoring &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>LS &#8211; 25th minute &#8211;\u00a0Ally Puga (Kelly Matsumoto, Nicole Arevalo)<\/p>\n<p>LS &#8211; 28th minute &#8211;\u00a0Arevalo (Taylor Mediano)<\/p>\n<p>GK: (M) Sarah Wallich 18 saves, (LS) Cassidy Rey 8 saves<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(Sierra Madre, Ca) \u2013 The La Salle girls\u2019 soccer team began their quest for a CIF-SS title with a convincing 2-0 win over Monrovia in non-league play.
