I never, EVER, saw my Mom kissing Santa Claus on Christmas Eve…Now, on the the other hand, if someone told me they saw my Dad kissing Mrs. Claus I might believe them.<\/span><\/p>\n Every time I see Texas Tech mens basketball coach Pat Knight sitting on the bench I have the urge to kick him…I don\u2019t know why…<\/span><\/p>\n Did I bag on Andrew Bynum in the playoffs last year? If I did, I was wrong… You know we all go Villathedevil every once in a while.<\/span><\/p>\n Mr. Blue State came on the board last night to remind there are other sports besides football and that is why spring football won\u2019t work…Are you finished Mr. Blue State?…Oh, well then allow me to retort…<\/span><\/p>\n The JV Spring League would run eight weeks, and be an instructional league…No playoffs, no overtime, no trophies, no cross country traveling to faraway exotic places like Tahquitz… The varsity coaches can observe, teach, and evaluate talent while the JV head coach runs the team and implements program philosophy. <\/span><\/p>\n Players are already playing to pay, that revenue, plus two to three bucks at the door and this thing would pay for itself. You know people would come. This would allow varsity rosters in the fall to be not only larger, but better prepared.<\/span><\/p>\n Officials could train officials-in-training during the spring and not with marbles on the line in the fall.<\/span><\/p>\n Who would be eligible? Anybody that didn\u2019t earn a varsity letter the previous season…I\u2019m assuming that is still based on playing time (as it was back in the ancients).<\/span><\/p>\n As far as the other sports suffering, it doesn\u2019t look like the economy is going to get better any time soon…and even if it does hard calls are going to have to be made when it comes to prep sports versus class size and salary structures…<\/span><\/p>\n Before the decision is made to redirect prep sports to a more community ran model (Little League, Parks & Rec)… Sports programs who can\u2019t cut their own meat (meaning raise revenue) might be the first to go…<\/span><\/p>\n The more I make this up as I go, I love it…<\/span><\/p>\n Even though the fan base for both Monrovia and Whittier Christian is heating our boards, the two schools have never met on the gridiron. For the record; the Wildcats, since 1960, are 14-10-1 against private schools…For what its worth M-Town HC Ryan Maddox is 3-0 against private schools.<\/span><\/p>\n Do you realize Azusa has made the playoffs five of the last six seasons? The one year they didn\u2019t make the playoffs in that span, 2005, they were 5-5.<\/span><\/p>\n Last Add Aztecs: Azusa went six seasons, 1998 thru 2003, without qualifying for CIF. In its last playoff appearance prior to that streak they lost at Citrus College to South Pasadena, 42-14, in 1997.<\/span><\/p>\n Which is interesting not only because it was the Tigers first playoff appearance since 1993…but South Pasadena\u2019s first playoff victory since winning at Barstow, 6-0, in 1977…That victory advanced the Tigers to the semifinals where they fell at home, in front of a standing-room only crowd, to Lynwood 14-9 on this same date; December 3rd.<\/span><\/p>\n On the same evening, crosstown at Arcadia High School, El Rancho was facing Temple City in the Eastern Conference\u2019s other semifinal. Don Roberts 93-yard punt return jump started the Rams to a 35-6 win.<\/span><\/p>\n This was going on while the Apaches were at Compton where Ted Bowman drilled a 40-yard field goal with two ticks left on the clock to put the Apaches in their first ever CIF final with a 6-3 victory.<\/span><\/p>\n This just in; rumors are circulating about Matt Koffler being on the short list to replace Mark Mangino as head coach at Kansas.
