Did you hear Kobe call \u201cbank\u201d last night against the Heat before he made the game winning three? I didn\u2019t.<\/span><\/p>\n Always loved it back in the day when playing pick-up and how a chump looked after banking in a twenty-footer from straight out…We\u2019d all smile, and he\u2019d give the; \u201cWhat\u2019s wrong?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n I did some things in my youth I\u2019m not proud of…but I never, NEVER, made out with someone during \u201cThe Crucible\u201d!<\/span><\/p>\n While Monrovia is seeking its ninth championship appearance, Whittier Christian its fourth, Charter Oak its eighth, and Cal its second…It only took San Dimas 397 games to reach the CIF Finals for the first time…<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThey look like a team that knows its not finished yet,\u201d said Mid Valley staffer Matt Schuler in the way San Dimas handled itself post-game.<\/span><\/p>\n Azusa snapped a 12 quarter, three game, scoreless streak against San Dimas last night…Those three consecutive shutouts came in 1997, 1998, 1999…<\/span><\/p>\n In the \u201clooking for any kind of angle\u201d theory; Those three seasons come to mind because they are the last three times Monrovia qualified for the CIF finals…<\/span><\/p>\n And its the Wildcats, with a win tonight, who will be the Saints opponent next week…(Start the Twilight Zone music)…<\/span><\/p>\n It really has to hurt in South Hills Land today…<\/span><\/p>\n Ryan Kohler blew me away last night…as well as Azusa defenders…I kept thinking Larry Csonka…<\/span><\/p>\n Last Add Aztecs: Someone should give Kendrec McDade a shot at the next level…and no one should forget the excellent play of Azusa defenders Nick Valverde, Jose Nunez, and Bryan Nieto.<\/span><\/p>\n In fact Nieto had a sweet tip away late in the first half in the end zone on a deep pass from the Saints Shawn Kennedy to Brian Hilpert.<\/span><\/p>\n …And I kept wondering how weird it was no one stormed the field at San Dimas after the victory, but fans, players, bandwagoners, were all over the place when they beat Bonita in the Smudgepot game earlier in the season.<\/span><\/p>\n With Monrovia facing Whittier Christian in a few hours, the last time the Wildcats played a semifinal on this date was in 1998. They got 185-yards from Akil Harris in a 52-14 victory over Santa Ynez.<\/span><\/p>\n On this date in 1986 Temple City linebacker Bob Rees intercepted Burroughs\u2019 quarterback Jeff Barrett\u2019s pass with 40 seconds left on the clock to preserve the Rams 35-28 semifinal win. The Rams improved to 13-0 and into the CIF Finals where they met Hart.<\/span><\/p>\n The Indians, led by Barrett\u2019s 268-yards passing and three touchdowns, finished 10-2-1.<\/span><\/p>\n On the same night in Pasadena, Muir knocked off Canyon 22-14 and upped its record to 13-0 on the strong performance of quarterback Vince Phillips (16-21-140-yards, Td).\u00a0 The Mustangs earned a trip to the finals against Antelope Valley the following week.<\/span><\/p>\n And, same night, same year, Arroyo\u2019s Willie Reyna fired a 15-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Alvarez in the third quarter and Fernando Zavala ran 9-yards for a score in the fourth to give the Knights a 14-10 victory over Cajon…and their first trip to the finals.<\/span><\/p>\n Finally Los Altos and Wilson both won to set a CIF Final date against each other.
