Tyler Dorsey pulls the trigger on two of his 40!<\/p><\/div>\n

(Pasadena) – Tyler Dorsey scored 40 points\u00a0to lead Maranatha to an 80-59 win over St. Genevieve Tuesday night to advance to the semi finals of the CIF\u00a0Division 4A\u00a0 Playoffs. Dorsey was consistent,\u00a0scoring 20 in each half, and also got help from\u00a0Sean Romeo who had 17, including five three pointers. The Minutemen led by 11 after one and by 14 at halftime. St. Genevieve was still within 13 after three quarters but the Minutemen went on a 19-2 run to open the fourth\u00a0and put it away.<\/p>\n

Dorsey scored the first\u00a0seven points of the game\u00a0on a couple of free throws, a bucket and a three and the Minutemen never looked back. They never trailed in the contest. Dorsey scored 13 in the first quarter\u00a0as Maranatha took a\u00a021-10 lead. Trevor Stanback, the 6-10 transfer, also made an appearance in the first quarter.\u00a0He didn’t score but he did fly swat\u00a0away a couple of St. Genevieve shots to ignite the crowd.<\/p>\n

Romero heated up in the second quarter burying a pair of threes\u00a0and scoring eight points. St. Genevieve\u00a0tried to keep pace as Marcel Burton scored seven in a 19 point\u00a0second quarter but the Valiants were still down\u00a043-29 at the break. St. Genevieve\u00a0did its best to put the clamps on Dorsey in the third quarter throwing\u00a0two and sometimes three guys at the Oregon commit,\u00a0and it worked for awhile.<\/p>\n

Dorsey had just two baskets (and three free throws) in the third\u00a0and the Valiants got as close as 11.\u00a0Ross Lee knocked down a pair of three balls to keep\u00a0St. Genevieve within striking distance.<\/p>\n

The Minutemen\u00a0snuffed out any hopes for\u00a0a Valiant comeback by\u00a0going on an 8-0 run that eventually turned into a 19-2 blitz in the fourth quarter. Stanback highlighted the run with four points including a rim rattling jam. Just like that Maranatha\u00a0was up 30 and St. Genevieve was making\u00a0plans for the weekend.<\/p>\n

Stanback finished with six points\u00a0and at least as many blocks. Tey Williams also scored seven for Tim Tucker’s crew.<\/p>\n

The Valiants had three players in double digits. Burton led the team with 20, D.J. Walker had 12 and\u00a0Lee added 11.<\/p>\n

The Minutemen will play Valley Christian Friday night, a 50-47 winner over Paraclete.<\/p>\n
