Princess Nava went the distance for Covina<\/p><\/div>\n

(Duarte) – Covina erased a 1-0 deficit with a three run sixth and Princess\u00a0Nava went the distance to lead the Colts to a 3-1 win over La Salle Saturday in the Duarte Tournament. It was the second time in\u00a0three days that Covina had knocked off the Lancers\u00a0and it this time it was good for a third place\u00a0finish.<\/p>\n

Covina beat\u00a0La Salle 1-0 on Wednesday and it looked the Lancers were going to return the favor as they\u00a0carried a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning. But Covina rallied for three in the bottom of the sixth and Nava retired the\u00a0Lancers in the seventh, striking out two of the three batters, to preserve the win.<\/p>\n

Nava struck out six\u00a0overall while walking two. She allowed five hits. She ran into trouble in the first inning\u00a0when La Salle loaded the bases with one out.\u00a0Vanessa Dwyer singled home Kolby Deziel who had walked to lead off the inning but that’s all the Lancers could muster.\u00a0One runner was thrown out trying to score from third and Nava got the last out on a pop up to second.\u00a0La Salle never\u00a0threatened again. In the sixth, with two out Paula Damas walked and Dwyer singled again to put runners\u00a0on first and second but Nava again induced the next batter to pop out.<\/p>\n

Vanessa Dwyer fired a complete game for La Salle and had two hits at the plate<\/p><\/div>\n

Dwyer, in the circle for La Salle, was matching Nava nearly pitch for pitch throughout the game.\u00a0The Colts had\u00a0opportunities but couldn’t cash in.\u00a0They had runners\u00a0on in the\u00a0first, second, fourth and fifth but didn’t break through until the sixth.<\/p>\n

In the inning, Ali Lenoue reached on an error with one out.\u00a0Samantha Hardwick walked and Nava singled to tie the game. Samantha Medrano then hit a Texas Leaguer that\u00a0landed in shallow center field and another run scored.\u00a0With two out Ricki Corvera hit what appeared to be\u00a0an inning ending pop up but\u00a0the ball dropped as the La Salle infielders\u00a0collided for an error giving Covina a 3-1 advantage.<\/p>\n

Nava then closed the door.<\/p>\n

Dwyer threw a complete game for La Salle\u00a0striking out\u00a0five and walking three. She didn’t allow a hit until the fourth inning\u00a0keeping the Covina batters off balance with a strong\u00a0fastball and\u00a0a good change. She gave up three hits overall.<\/p>\n

Covina\u00a0improved to\u00a04-0 overall while La Salle dropped to 2-2- both losses to Covina.<\/p>\n
