Tyler Dorsey slams home two as Maranatha slams Pacific Ridge.<\/p><\/div>\n

(Pasadena) – Maranatha\u00a0sprinted out of the gate with a 25 point first quarter\u00a0and coasted to a 101-54 rout of Pacific Ridge Wednesday night in the opening round of the state playoffs.\u00a0It looked like\u00a0the Minutemen would fall short of the century mark but\u00a0Tevin Khudatyan stole the ball and tossed in\u00a0a basket as the clock ran out.<\/p>\n

Tyler Dorsey played again like…well like Tyler Dorsey as he scored 37 points, 26 in the first half. Dorsey hit\u00a0four three pointers and threw down several rim rattling jams on breakaways. Sean Romero was deadly from beyond the arc knocking down\u00a0seven of 11 from\u00a0 the land of plenty\u00a0and finished with 21 points. Tey Williams was efficient as usual scoring 10 points\u00a0and running the show to near perfection.<\/p>\n

Usually the saying is it was over by halftime. Well this was over in the first quarter.\u00a0Maranatha opened the game\u00a0with\u00a0an 11-3 run\u00a0highlighted by slam dunks by Dorsey and 6-10 junior Trevor Stanback.\u00a0Dorsey had 13 in the first quarter and Romero had six\u00a0as the Minutemen led 25-14 after one.<\/p>\n

An 11-2 run to open the second\u00a0increased the lead to 20\u00a0and before you could say Jesse Elrod\u00a0Maranatha was up 20. Dorsey and Romero splashed\u00a0five more threes between them and by the time the first half came to an end\u00a0it was 55-26.<\/p>\n

Speaking of Elrod he threw down a huge jam to cap\u00a0a 27 point\u00a0third quarter\u00a0third quarter bringing the raucous home crowd to its feet. It was the usual suspects for Maranatha – Mr. Dorsey and Mr. Romero-\u00a0who did the damage.\u00a0Especially Romero who\u00a0buried three consecutive threes.<\/p>\n

The only thing that kept Dorsey from getting 50 and\u00a0Romero\u00a0from 30 was head coach Tim Tucker who emptied his bench early in the fourth quarter.\u00a0But at that point it was an easy decision\u00a0as Maranatha had opened up a 40 point bulge.<\/p>\n

Elrod and Stanback both finished\u00a0with eight.<\/p>\n

Scott Nalbandian put up a murmur of protest for Pacific Ridge with 32 of the 54 points including 15 in the fourth quarter.\u00a0No other Firebird was in double figures.<\/p>\n

Maranatha hit 13 threes\u00a0overall\u00a0with Dorsey and Romero combining for 11.<\/p>\n
