(Carson) – Omar Gonzalez\u00a0scored in the last minute of the contest to give the LA Galaxy a 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City Saturday night before\u00a020,018 at StubHub Center.<\/p>\n

The game was tied at one at the end of regulation\u00a0when four minutes of additional time was added.\u00a0In the 94th minute Gonzalez redirected a corner kick from Juninho\u00a0into the net\u00a0for the game winner and the celebration ensued.<\/p>\n

“When you play hard sometimes\u00a0you get a little lucky. I thought we played well overall,” said Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena.<\/p>\n

Gonzalez didn’t start the game but came on late\u00a0to have the big impact. “We were thinking we would use Omar at the end.\u00a0We used him exactly the way we should have tonight,”\u00a0Arena said.<\/p>\n

The score was tied at one at the half.\u00a0Baggio Husidic scored\u00a0off a rebound of a Stefan Ishizaki shot\u00a0in the ninth minute to give the\u00a0Galaxy a 1-0 lead. Krisztian Nemeth\u00a0tied\u00a0it for\u00a0Sporting KC\u00a0off a crisp pass from Dominic Dwyer in the 22nd minute.<\/p>\n

Marcel de jong almost put KC up one in the 35th minute but\u00a0Jaime Penedo\u00a0leaped\u00a0to make a palm save.\u00a0Penedo later ran out of the box\u00a0to make another diving save in the 39th minute. One minute of\u00a0additional time was added in the first half but it ended 1-1 at the break.<\/p>\n

Sporting KC had the advantage of shots on goal\u00a0at halftime 8-4. KC also led in time of possession\u00a053 percent to 47 for the Galaxy.<\/p>\n

There weren’t\u00a0many opportunities for either side\u00a0in the second half. Penedo made a diving\u00a0save for the Galaxy in the 70th minute. Luis Marin\u00a0made an even better\u00a0one for\u00a0Sporting KC off of a Juninho\u00a0blast in the 72nd minute.<\/p>\n

Bradford\u00a0Jamieson had a golden\u00a0opportunity right in front of the net\u00a0in the 76th minute but was again thwarted by Marin.\u00a0Jamieson tried to score off of a cross but Marin came up huge.<\/p>\n

Juninho got into a minor\u00a0scuffle\u00a0with Roger Espinoza in the 82nd minute and received a\u00a0yellow card but no scoring came as a result.<\/p>\n

Omar Gonzalez\u00a0then ended it in the 94th minute.<\/p>\n

Sporting\u00a0Kansas City finished with more shots on goal than the Galaxy 10-9. Total time of possession went to the Galaxy\u00a051.2 percent to 48.8 for KC.<\/p>\n

“It was good to get the result\u00a0especially with a makeshift lineup,” Arena added.\u00a0LA\u00a0played without Robbie Keane who is still injured and\u00a0Gonzalez and Gyasi Zardes came off the bench.<\/p>\n

The Galaxy improved to 3-2-2 with the victory\u00a0while Sporting Kansas City fell to 2-2-3.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
