Pablo O’Connor provides the power for APU with a home run and triple.<\/p><\/div>\n

(Mazmanian Field – Mt. San Antonio College) – The Azusa Pacific offensive outburst continued as they\u00a0pounded out 17 more hits in a 14-5 rout of Cal Baptist Friday night in the NCAA\u00a0Division II\u00a0West Regionals\u00a0at Mazmanian Field.<\/p>\n

The Cougars have now racked up 31 runs and 32 hits in\u00a0two games.<\/p>\n

Pablo O’Connor did the most\u00a0damage for APU with three hits, five RBIs and four runs scored. O’Connor hit one to Pasadena\u00a0for a solo shot in the third inning and later hit a bases clearing triple in the eighth. O’Connor came just a double short of the cycle.<\/p>\n

Mitch Dergazarian, Michael Satudinger and\u00a0Blake James\u00a0also had\u00a0three hits each.\u00a0Tied at one, the Cougars scored three in the second to grab the lead and chased Lancer starter Tyson Miller. Dergazarian knocked in two with a single and\u00a0a run scoring single by\u00a0James plated another. O’Connor’s blast in the third, his fifth home run of the year\u00a0gave the Cougs\u00a0a 5-1 lead.<\/p>\n

Jonny Reid was solid on the mound for the Cougars.<\/p><\/div>\n

Azusa Pacific scored\u00a0four in the fourth highlighted by RBI singles by Daniel Martin and Ryan Santana to\u00a0take a commanding 9-1 lead.<\/p>\n

Antonio Chavarria belted a\u00a0three run home run to give\u00a0Cal Baptist some life in the fifth.\u00a0 Azusa Pacific starter Jonny Reid\u00a0gave way to\u00a0David May with two outs in the fifth.\u00a0Reid gave up\u00a0four runs on just\u00a0two hits while walking\u00a0eight.<\/p>\n

The Cougars added a\u00a0run in the\u00a0seventh on a run scoring single by\u00a0Adrian Tovalin and then O’Connor supplied\u00a0the gravy by going the other way\u00a0driving\u00a0a bases loaded triple\u00a0down into the right field corner for a 13-4 advantage.\u00a0Michael Staudinger then promptly singled in O’Connor.<\/p>\n

Lancers tacked on one\u00a0in the ninth to close out the scoring.<\/p>\n

“\u201cCalifornia Baptist is a great club and our guys did a great job making contact at the plate today,\u201d head coach Paul Svagdis said. \u201cIt\u2019s always good to win. At the end of the day every team here is a good team so we just have to take it one game at a time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Cougars will now face the winner of the Cal Poly Pomona- Cal Baptist game Saturday night at 7:00.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
