(Photo by Duane Barker)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>By Tim Peterson<\/p>\n<p>(Anaheim) &#8211; The KISS jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead and then had to hang on to survive a 34-28 win over Spokane Sunday before 7, 730 at Honda Center.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The Shock had the ball at the KISS 16 with last shot. On the final play of the game Arvell Nelson threw a pass to Nick Truesdell who tried to make the catch while falling over the wall with no time remaining.\u00a0The pass was ruled incomplete, even though Truesdell came out with the ball.\u00a0The play was reviewed after Spokane\u00a0challenged\u00a0but the call on the field stood and the KISS emerged with the win.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_48861\" style=\"width: 530px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_3302.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48861\" class=\"size-large wp-image-48861\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_3302-564x768.jpg\" alt=\"Miles Mason rumbles and bumbles his way in to the endzone for a Kiss touchdown. It was a good challenge by them but\u00a0it was the right call,&#8221;\u00a0said KISS Head Coach Bob McMillen.<\/p>\n<p>The Shock had a shot at the win when KISS&#8217; kicker Andre Heidari&#8217;s 22 yard field goal attempt was blocked with 40 seconds remaining but the KISS held on.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Maybe that&#8217;s my fault.\u00a0We haven&#8217;t been in position where we&#8217;re up 28-0.\u00a0But we need to learn how to finish games,&#8221; McMillen said. &#8220;We didn&#8217;t do that today.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_48863\" style=\"width: 530px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_3265.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48863\" class=\"size-large wp-image-48863\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_3265-639x768.jpg\" alt=\"Rayshaun Kizer goes high to break up a potential Spokane TD pass. (Photo by Duane Barker)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The KISS scored first.\u00a0\u00a0After a pass to Donovan &#8220;Captain&#8221; Morgan got\u00a0the ball down to the one-yard line,\u00a0Danny Southwick hit Tom Gilson\u00a0for a three-yard\u00a0touchdown\u00a0to put the KISS on the board.<\/p>\n<p>Josh Victorian intercepted a pass on the ensuing possession and the KISS took\u00a0advantage\u00a0when Southwick hits Morgan for 14 yards\u00a0in the corner of the endzone for the score to make it\u00a014-0. After the KISS defense made\u00a0a stop Tyrone Goard\u00a0comes up\u00a0big\u00a0hauling in an 18-yard pass from Southwick in the corner of the end zone and then disappearing over the wall. He then emerged\u00a0holding the ball up high and\u00a0the KISS was up three scores midway through the second quarter.<\/p>\n<p>The KISS again thwarted the Shock inside the five-yard line and\u00a0capitalized immediately when DeMarco Sampson is on the receiving end of an eight-yard Southwick TD strike with eight seconds left in the half for a 28-0 lead at the break.<\/p>\n<p>Then the momentum shifted quickly.<\/p>\n<p>The Shock scored on the first possession of the third quarter on an Avrell Nelson\u00a017-yard touchdown pass\u00a0to Nick Truesdell and then stopped the KISS on the next series to get the ball back.
