Arielle Wideman soars for a rebound as Amat downs LC<\/p><\/div>\n

(El Monte, Ca) \u2013 Bishop Amat held off La Canada to advance to the finals of the Lady Knights Tournament at Arroyo High School with a 48-44 win.<\/p>\n

The Lancers (9-0) saw Arielle Wideman take control of the fourth quarter as she scored seven straight Bishop Amat points to take a 38-38 tie game to a six point lead with 3:12 to play in the game.<\/p>\n

La Canada (8-1) was able to get the lead with 5:23 to play in the third quarter, when Shannon Denney was able to bank a shot over the Bishop Amat defense.<\/p>\n

From that point on it was a back-and-forth battle between two unbeaten teams in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n

The Lady Spartans were able to get a four point lead half way through the third quarter, only to have Bishop Amat use a trap defense to get momentum back on their side and get the lead at 32-31 when Wideman had a lay-up after a Gina Henderson steal and pass.<\/p>\n

From that moment on, the game had six lead changes until the Lancers defense held La Canada off the scoreboard for a better part of three minutes.<\/p>\n

The Lady Spartans made one last gasp to come from behind when Tia Chen was able to get running jumper to drop to cut the Lancer lead to four with 1:01 to play.<\/p>\n

After Bishop Amat\u2019s Leticia Galarza was able to make two foul shots, Chen got free and buried a three-pointer with less than 2.4 seconds to play to cut the Lancer lead to three points.<\/p>\n

Wideman led Bishop Amat with 15 points and Andrea Villanueva contributed 14 points in the win.<\/p>\n

Chen finished the evening with 15 points, while Courtney McCutchan scored 14 in the loss.<\/p>\n

Bishop Amat will now face Sonora in the tournament championship at 7:30 p.m., while La Canada will play in the third place game against Notre Dame Sherman Oaks at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n
