Boston Lakin and the Falcons squeak by Arcadia.<\/p><\/div>\n

(Glendale) – Freshman Cole Doyle\u00a0fired\u00a0a 52-yard touchdown pass to\u00a0Will Rees with 2:40 left in the game to give Crescenta Valley a 28-27 win over Arcadia Thursday night at Moyse Field.<\/p>\n

Doyle was called up just this\u00a0week when starting quarterback Evan Nelson broke his collarbone last week. Doyle delivered\u00a0leading the Falcons to not only a victory but also a third place finish in the Pacific and also\u00a0a spot in the playoffs.\u00a0Arcadia, which\u00a0rebounded from a 21-0 deficit to take a 27-21 lead, is most likely done for the season.<\/p>\n

Doyle shared time at quarterback with Tyler Hill\u00a0throughout the contest. Hill\u00a0threw for a pair of touchdown passes and also ran for one.\u00a0His one-yard plunge in the second quarter gave the Falcons a 21-0 lead.<\/p>\n

The Falcons looked like they would cruise from there\u00a0but the tide turned late in the second. Tyler Hill picked off a pass and although he appeared to be in the end zone the officials placed the ball at the one-yard line.\u00a0The Falcons then fumbled and \u00a0Arcadia\u00a0recovered at the one. The Apaches\u00a0then cashed in\u00a0with a three-yard blast by Quentin Cortes\u00a0and a two-point conversion to make it 21-8.<\/p>\n

Arcadia reeled off\u00a0the next 19 points in the second half to go up 27-21. Raeshawn Roland’s\u00a085-yard punt return in which he hurdled a Falcon defender\u00a0gave the Apaches the six point lead with 3:02 left.\u00a0Arcadia’s kicker is out with an injury so the Apaches went for two and were denied.\u00a0Doyle delivered the game winner 22 seconds later.<\/p>\n

*** Brian Erickson\u00a0caught\u00a0a 11-yard pass from Hill on the Falcons first drive for a 7-0 lead.<\/p>\n

*** On CV’s next possession\u00a0Boston Lakin hauled in a 48-yad pass from Hill for a 14-0 advantage.<\/p>\n

*** Hillier capped a 16-play, 80-yard drive early in the third quarter to cut the Falcon\u00a0lead to 21-15.<\/p>\n

*** Hillier hit Craig Carrillo with a 29-yard strike to tie it at 21 with 6:23 left in the fourth. The extra point attempt was blocked.<\/p>\n

*** Arcadia had two turnovers (both interceptions by Hill)\u00a0while CV turned it over once – the fumble on a\u00a0bad exchange\u00a0from center at the one yard line.<\/p>\n

*** Arcadia had one last chance but turned the ball over on downs when a 26 yard pass from Hillier to Roland left them six yards short of a first down.<\/p>\n

*** The Apaches finished the season\u00a05-5 overall and 4-3 in league (fourth in the Pacific.)<\/p>\n

***\u00a0Lakin caught four passes for\u00a0126 yards for Crescenta Valley.<\/p>\n

*** “Cole Doyle. That’s a name that you’re going to be hearing for the next few years.” – Former\u00a0Crescenta Valley lineman Sam Campbell.<\/p>\n

*** The Falcons\u00a0improved to 7-3 (5-2 in league)\u00a0which is good for third place. They will find out their first round Southeast Division playoff opponent Sunday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
