(Photo by Doug Brown)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>By Thom Hendrickson<\/p>\n<p>(Burbank)&#8212; The City of Burbank\u2019s \u201cBig Game\u201d was a showcase for Burroughs quarterback Steven Hubbell\u2019s big game. The senior threw five touchdown passes in the Indians 47-21 victory over the Burbank Bulldogs on Friday night at District Memorial Field.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The victory gave Burroughs the Pacific League title outright and improved its record to 7-0 in league and 9-1 overall. The Bulldogs fell to 6-1 in league, and 6-4 overall. The meeting was 67th between the schools. The Flatlanders lead all time 42-25.<\/p>\n<p>Early on it looked like it was going to be the Guy Gibbs show. The Bulldogs quarterback struck with a pair of first quarter touchdown passes to give his team a 14-0 lead. After the first scoring toss went 54-yards to Forrest Fajardo and the second covered 37-yards to Max Weisman Burbank was on track to win its fourth straight in the series.<\/p>\n<p>The Indians then rallied with 19 unanswered points to close out the first half.<\/p>\n<p>Keying the Burroughs rally was Hubbell catching fire with receivers Robert Awungani, Erick Hernandez,\u00a0and Cade Borland. Late in the first quarter Awungani was on the receiving end of a 37-yard strike. Hernandez caught a 39-yard scoring toss in the second quarter and then, just before halftime, Cade Borland found paydirt on a 13-yard pitch catch.<\/p>\n<p>The Indians led 19-14 at the break and never looked back.<\/p>\n<p>Chance Bell\u2019s 76-yard touchdown run at the start of the third quarter blew the game open. The talented running back hit\u00a0the corner on the left side, reversed field in Bulldogs territory, and raced into the right corner of the end zone.\u00a0Bell finished with 164 yards on 20 carries.<\/p>\n<p>Burroughs was on its way to 40 unanswered points when Hubbell threw his final two touchdowns to Nick Mercado for 2-yards and Awunganyi for 32-yard. Hubbell finished\u00a017 of 27 for 265 yards five scores. His\u00a0season total for touchdown passes now stands at 25.<\/p>\n<p>The Bulldogs stopped the unchecked run of points when Gibbs went 24-yards to Powell Noah with 3:08 left in the game.
