(Photo by Duane Barker)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>By Tim Peterson<\/p>\n<p>(Glendora) &#8211; Azusa Pacific\u00a0finished the season in style as Andrew Elffers threw for\u00a0185 yards and ran for\u00a0118 more\u00a0in a 38-17 win over Simon Fraser Saturday night at\u00a0Citrus College.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Elffers completed 10 of 21\u00a0passes\u00a0and a touchdown\u00a0and he also\u00a0had a 32-yard run for a score to put the Cougars up 24-7 early in the third quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Elffers played late into the fourth quarter before being replaced by Chad\u00a0Jeffries with APU up by three touchdowns.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_50803\" style=\"width: 530px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_9603.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-50803\" class=\"size-large wp-image-50803\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_9603-663x768.jpg\" alt=\"The Cougar defense was solid against Simon Fraser. (Photo by Duane Barker)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Cougars led 17-7 at the half before blowing it open in the third quarter.\u00a0Tarik Myles returned the third quarter kick off all the way back to the\u00a0Simon Fraser 35 yard line.\u00a0Two plays later\u00a0Elffers ran\u00a032 yards for a touchdown\u00a0to make it 24-7.<\/p>\n<p>After\u00a0Tiernan Docherty\u00a0booted a 28-yard field goal for Simon Fraser, APU and Elffers\u00a0struck again. This time he used his arm for six firing a 34-yard strike to Blake Robertson\u00a0for a 31-10 lead.\u00a0They weren&#8217;t done yet.<\/p>\n<p>The Cougars resorted to a little trickery on the next possession as Robertson caught a swing pass from Elffers\u00a0and then pulled up and launched a 40 yard spiral to Ethan\u00a0Zeidler who danced into the end zone for a 38-10 lead with 5:53\u00a0left in the third.\u00a0There was almost a quarter and a half to play but the double pass doomed Fraser.<\/p>\n<p>Simon Fraser did manage a late score after the Cougars botched a punt. Justin Buren scored on a nine yard run for\u00a0the final tally.<\/p>\n<p>APU made a\u00a0goal line\u00a0stand early in the first quarter stuffing Simon Fraser at the one-yard line\u00a0but after a short punt\u00a0Simon Fraser cashed in with a 38-yard touchdown pass from\u00a0Ryan Stanford to Christian\u00a0Berger\u00a0to take the early advantage.<\/p>\n<p>After\u00a0an APU punt buried Simon Fraser\u00a0at its own\u00a0one -yard line, Matthew Hackett\u00a0stripped the ball and Jabrion Burnside\u00a0fell on it in the end zone to tie it\u00a0at seven early in the second quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Samuela Fanua scored on a four-yard run on the next series to give the Cougars a 14-7 lead.
