Jamire Calvin scored twice for Cathedral on two big plays<\/p><\/div>\n

(Downey) – Cathderal blocked\u00a0a\u00a0field goal as time ran out to beat\u00a0Downey 22-20\u00a0Friday night at Allen Layne Stadium to advance to the Southeast Division Semi Finals.<\/p>\n

Downey\u00a0got the ball back\u00a0with just over six minutes left and drove all the way down to the Cathedral\u00a012 yard line before\u00a0being stopped on a fourth down. With two seconds left Viking kicker Noah Skobis\u00a0booted it through the uprights\u00a0as the clock hit zeroes.\u00a0But the Phantom coaching staff was\u00a0desperately\u00a0calling for a timeout and it was granted and they lined up again.\u00a0This time Terrance Simon\u00a0busted through the line and blocked the attempt setting off a Cathedral celebration.<\/p>\n

Jamire Calvin was the big play guy\u00a0for the Phantoms returning\u00a0a punt for 63 yards for a touchdown late in the second quarter to give\u00a0Cathedral a 9-7 lead.\u00a0After Downey fumbled\u00a0on its first series in the third quarter, Calvin\u00a0raced past the Viking secondary\u00a0on the first play from scrimmage and hauled in a 37-yard\u00a0pass from Andrew Tovar to make it 16-7.<\/p>\n

Daevon Vigilant\u00a0was the workhorse for Downey\u00a0scoring on an 11-yard run to answer Calvin’s score early in the third to cut the Phantom advantage to 16-14.<\/p>\n

on the next possession,\u00a0Arex Flemings caught a two-yard pass from Tovar\u00a0for an eight point advantage. But the extra point attempt was blocked\u00a0leaving Cathedral up 22-14 with 1:03 left in the third.<\/p>\n

Early in the fourth quarter\u00a0Asfunso\u00a0Elam capped a 72-yard drive with a 13-yard sweep\u00a0for a touchdown to cut the Cathedral lead to two.\u00a0The Vikings two point\u00a0conversion run was stopped\u00a0and the Phantoms were still up two. It proved to be the final score.<\/p>\n

*** Cathedral’s Tovar fumbled on the first series of the game\u00a0at the Downey\u00a037\u00a0to set up the Vikings\u00a0first score. Emari Demercado\u00a0went in from five-yards out five plays later\u00a0for a 7-0 lead.<\/p>\n

*** Ricardo Quintero\u00a0kicked a 31-yard field goal\u00a0later in the\u00a0first for Cathedral to\u00a0make it 7-3.<\/p>\n

*** Calvin, who scored the\u00a0next two touchdowns for\u00a0Cathedral, had just two catches but\u00a0accumulated 66 yards and a score.<\/p>\n

*** Tovar completed\u00a025 of 36 for 298 yards and two touchdowns.<\/p>\n

*** Cathedral receiver\u00a0Renard Bell caught six passes for 61 yards and Flemings hauled in seven for 75 yards and a score.<\/p>\n

*** Vigilant had\u00a028 carries for\u00a0144 yards and a touchdown to lead the Downey\u00a0attack.<\/p>\n

*** Downey’s Jalen Thompson had five catches for 105 yards.<\/p>\n

*** Cathedral had two turnovers on the night and Downey had one.<\/p>\n

*** Rafeeq Rahim\u00a0threw for 192 yards for the Vikings with no interceptions.<\/p>\n
