(La Canada) –\u00a0La Serna\u00a0shut out St. Francis\u00a0in the second quarter and\u00a0scored two fourth quarter\u00a0touchdowns to\u00a0knock out the Golden Knights 24-10\u00a0Friday night at Friedman Field.\u00a0With the victory the Lancers\u00a0advanced to the CIF Southeast Finals for the fourth time in\u00a0five years.<\/p>\n

St. Francis\u00a0was up 10-3 at the half\u00a0but La Serna\u00a0came out in the second half\u00a0and forced the Golden Knights into a three and out. Anthony Garcia\u00a0capped a 57-yard drive with a three-yard run to get the Lancers even.\u00a0La Serna\u00a0forced St. Francis to punt again and immediately marched down the field.\u00a0This time quarterback Johnny Ceballos\u00a0finished the drive\u00a0bolting in from\u00a0six yards out with 9:34 left in the fourth.<\/p>\n

The momentum had now shifted sides\u00a0as La Serna took a 17-10 lead and the pressure was now firmly on St. Francis.\u00a0But\u00a0the Golden Knights failed to\u00a0respond as the offense continued to\u00a0sputter. Another punt set up the Lancers at their own 40. They needed only four plays to score again. Ceballos\u00a0hit Jonathan Wise\u00a0for 45 yards down to the St. Francis\u00a015. Three plays later\u00a0Matthew Marshall raced in from 11 yards out to make it 24-10, and with 5:11 left the Golden Knights’ goose was cooked.<\/p>\n

Jonah Franco picked off St. Francis\u00a0quarterback Miles Bryant on the first play of the next series to pour a little salt in the Golden Knight wounds.\u00a0From there it was just a matter of running out the clock.<\/p>\n

*** La Serna scored first on a\u00a030-yard Alex Vasquez field goal after Jasher Foster\u00a0fumbled\u00a0a punt and the Lancers\u00a0recovered at the St. Francis 40-yard line.<\/p>\n

*** St. Francis\u00a0responded with an 82-yard drive that culminated with a 35-yard touchdown pass from Bryant\u00a0to\u00a0Daniel Scott.<\/p>\n

*** Dulles Hanula booted a 42-yard field goal on the\u00a0next series to give St. Francis a\u00a010-3 lead with\u00a05:30 left in the first half. It turned out to be the Golden Knights last score of the night.<\/p>\n

*** St. Francis turned the ball over\u00a0twice to just once for La Serna – a fumble in the first half.<\/p>\n

*** Ceballos was banged up in the first half but returned after missing just one series.<\/p>\n

*** Marshall led the\u00a0Lancers in rushing with 83 yards\u00a0on 13 carries.\u00a0Garcia rushed 10 times for 51 yards.<\/p>\n

*** Ceballos completed 7 of 15 for 102 yards and ran for\u00a033 yards on 7 carries.<\/p>\n

*** Bryant finished the night 14 of 21 for 179 yards and a touchdown.\u00a0He also threw an interception.<\/p>\n

*** St. Francis finishes the season\u00a09-4 overall.<\/p>\n

*** La Serna (11-2) will meet La Mirada, 38-7 winners over Cathedral,\u00a0next week for the Southeast title.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
