Sierra Canyon celebrates winning the Mid Valley Division Title.<\/p><\/div>\n

(San Dimas) –\u00a0Sierra Canyon\u00a0went up 14-0 in the\u00a0first quarter\u00a0and went on to shut out\u00a0San Dimas\u00a020-0 at San Dimas High\u00a0Friday night to capture the CIF Mid-Valley Division Championship.<\/p>\n

The Trailblazers\u00a0went 80 yards on\u00a0six plays on their second possession of the game.\u00a0Eric Markes hauled in a 30-yard touchdown\u00a0pass from\u00a0Nico Harris\u00a0to cap off the drive with 4:34\u00a0left in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead. It turned out to be\u00a0all that Sierra Canyon needed.<\/p>\n

The Blazers\u00a0scored again on their next drive, this time going\u00a055 yards on seven plays. Harris\u00a0did it himself scoring from\u00a0 a yard out with just 27 seconds left in the first for a 14-0 halftime lead.<\/p>\n

San Dimas marched all the way down to the\u00a0Sierra Canyon 28 in the second quarter but was stopped on fourth down.\u00a0The Saints were in Trailblazer territory three more times\u00a0in the second half but fumbled the ball away\u00a0on one and was\u00a0stonewalled\u00a0twice on fourth down\u00a0on the other two possessions.<\/p>\n

Sierra Canyon\u00a0also sputtered in the second half as they\u00a0failed to put the Saints away. The Trailblazers turned the ball over once\u00a0and also botched a field goal\u00a0attempt on a bad snap. They finally put the game on ice\u00a0with 3:04 left in the contest when Bobby Cole scored on a three-yard run to finish\u00a0a 55 yard drive. Sierra Canyon\u00a0started the drive in good field position after recovering a San Dimas fumble.<\/p>\n

*** Cole had 18 carries for 123 yards and a touchdown for Sierra Canyon.<\/p>\n

*** Blazers’ receiver Markes had three catches\u00a0for 74 yards and a score.<\/p>\n

*** Harris\u00a0threw for 147 yards and a touchdown\u00a0and rushed for 33 yards and a TD.<\/p>\n

*** Sierra Canyon tuned the ball over\u00a0once – a Harris interception –\u00a0while San Dimas had two turnovers.<\/p>\n

*** Jarell Sykes was the workhorse\u00a0for San Dimas\u00a0with 24 carries for 91 yards. Sykes\u00a0had\u00a0the biggest play of the night for\u00a0San Dimas\u00a0running for 32 yards on\u00a0a fake punt with just over eight minutes left in the fourth quarter.\u00a0San Dimas however was unable to capitalize.<\/p>\n

*** Dominic Cortez\u00a0had 16 carries for\u00a068 yards for the Saints.<\/p>\n

*** San Dimas’\u00a0Joey Tamayo\u00a0attempted just\u00a011 passes and completed seven with an interception.<\/p>\n

*** “This is a special group of kids and they\u00a0did some special things this year. Tonight\u00a0was a night where we faced some adversity and they could have given up several times but I’m proud of the way they played.\u00a0They played like champions,” said Sierra Canyon HC Jon Ellinghouse.<\/p>\n

*** Sierra Canyon finished the year a perfect 14-0\u00a0and is looking forward to the State playoffs.<\/p>\n

*** San Dimas, in Head Coach Mark Holman’s first year, finished the season\u00a010-4 overall.<\/p>\n
