Photo by Anne Cypress.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Staff-<\/p>\n<p>We don\u2019t choose a second team, third team or honorable mention. There is one team and one team only. So if you\u2019re on it, you\u2019re special. Because of that somebody will get left out. Some of our decisions were extremely difficult but after putting our heads together, contacting coaches and compiling stats and stories here is our all Southeast Division Team.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>QB:\u00a0 Aaron Cantu \u2013 Schurr: Put on an aerial display the entire season that saw him finish with 28 touchdowns and 2,500 yards.\u00a0 For the Spartans they can look forward to another year of a vertical game next season.<\/p>\n<p>RB:\u00a0 Adam Muema &#8211; Charter Oak:\u00a0 What can you say about a back that would run a defense into submission for four quarters?\u00a0 Muema was explosive once he found daylight.<\/p>\n<p>RB:\u00a0 Terris Jones \u2013 California:\u00a0 Jones was a scoring machine for the Condors.\u00a0 He only scored 25 of 31 rushing touchdowns the team recorded.<\/p>\n<p>WR:\u00a0 Carlos Arredondo \u2013 Schurr:\u00a0 Incredible target for Cantu and the \u201cgo-to\u201d receiver in a potent offense.\u00a0 Arredondo ranked 21<sup>st<\/sup> in the state in receiving yards in case there is any doubt.<\/p>\n<p>WR:\u00a0 Taylor Lagace \u2013 Arcadia:\u00a0 Talented sophomore receiver only led his team in receiving and scoring.\u00a0 In a season the Apaches would like to forget, Lagace was a very bright spot.<\/p>\n<p>WR:\u00a0 Sam Bethany \u2013 Burbank:\u00a0 Sometimes numbers don\u2019t tell the story and this is one case in point.\u00a0 Bethany was solid and made one of the best catches all season against Pasadena.<\/p>\n<p>TE:\u00a0 Dakota Behr \u2013 South Hills:\u00a0 When the Huskies needed a play. Behr was able to provide it.\u00a0 Can block and has some great hands when the ball is thrown to him.<\/p>\n<p>OL:\u00a0 Kevin Bocanegra \u2013 Charter Oak:\u00a0 Opened up some big holes for Muema and Golden and also protected quarterback Travis Santiago all season.<\/p>\n<p>OL: Mike Williams \u2013 Burbank:\u00a0 The Bulldog running game averaged 281 yards a game and Williams was a big reason for that.<\/p>\n<p>OL: Taylor Beyer \u2013 California:\u00a0 Beyer was able to give Jones enough room to maneuver his small frame for extra yardage.<\/p>\n<p>OL:\u00a0 Albert Perez \u2013 Schurr:\u00a0 Perez made it easy for Cantu to get enough time to find Arredondo on several occasions.\u00a0 Add the fact that the Spartans had Nicholas Castillo run for 1,343 yards.<\/p>\n<p>K:\u00a0 Tyler Hadden \u2013 California:\u00a0 Hadden was lethal on kickoffs with 51 of his 60 KO\u2019s going for touchbacks.\u00a0 He also had 12 field goals.<\/p>\n<p>Defense:<\/p>\n<p>DL:\u00a0 Alec Griffin \u2013 South Hills:\u00a0 Griffin caused problems for the opposing offensive line all season with his 7.5 sacks.<\/p>\n<p>DL:\u00a0 Mark Avila \u2013 Schurr:\u00a0 Avila was a tough customer on defense as he anchored a very stingy Spartan defensive unit.\u00a0 His eight sacks led the team.<\/p>\n<p>DL:\u00a0 Garrett Clapper \u2013 Charter Oak: His stats may not jump out at you, but teams ran away from him most of the season.\u00a0 Clapper made the plays needed during the Southeast Division championship when he was called upon.<\/p>\n<p>LB:\u00a0 Charlie Hosea \u2013 Burroughs:\u00a0 Hosea can flat out play.\u00a0 He single-handedly helped the undermanned Indians into the playoffs.<\/p>\n<p>LB:\u00a0 Maurice Dupleasis \u2013 West Covina:\u00a0 Quietly amassed 89 tackles and four sacks for the Bulldogs this season.\u00a0 Made the big plays down the stretch that counted in key games.<\/p>\n<p>LB:\u00a0 Keith Smith \u2013 Charter Oak:\u00a0 Smith helped lead the Chargers to one of the most impressive defensive performances in a season.\u00a0 His 132 tackles led all defensive players.<\/p>\n<p>LB:\u00a0 Leon Youngblood \u2013 Charter Oak:\u00a0 Youngblood led a stellar defense with 11 sacks on the season.\u00a0 His three sacks against Diamond Ranch in the Championship game helped the Chargers hold the Panthers scoreless.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">\n<div id=\"attachment_5125\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-5125\" href=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?attachment_id=5125\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5125\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5125\" title=\"043_filtered\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/043_filtered-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5125\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A.J. Powell... Mid Valley&#39;s MVP<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>DB:\u00a0 A.J. Powell \u2013 Charter Oak:\u00a0 Name another lockdown defensive player in the Southeast as good as him.\u00a0 Not many teams dared to challenge him by throwing in Powell\u2019s direction.<\/p>\n<p>DB:\u00a0 Elijah Henley \u2013 Diamond Ranch:\u00a0 Hard-hitting safety that made key plays down the stretch to help the Panthers march to another CIF Southeast Division.<\/p>\n<p>DB:\u00a0 Jarron Williams \u2013 Muir:\u00a0 Was simply an athlete who carried the Mustangs when it counted the most. Williams helped lead the way to a fantastic run into the playoffs with his gritty defense.<\/p>\n<p>DB:\u00a0 Brandon Golden \u2013 Charter Oak:\u00a0 Two big interceptions in the CIF Southeast Division helped the Chargers win back to back titles.\u00a0 Golden also led the secondary with six interceptions.<\/p>\n<p>P:\u00a0 Evan Highly \u2013 Bonita:\u00a0 The Bearcats relied on his leg through a rough season that didn\u2019t go according to plan.\u00a0\u00a0 Highly was able to help the defense with his nicely placed punts.<\/p>\n<p>MVP:\u00a0 A.J. Powell \u2013 Charter Oak:\u00a0 All everything.\u00a0 Talking to most of the coaching staff, they believed that Powell was the game changer on offense and defense.\u00a0 The Southeast Division Championship showed all of this in every facet.\u00a0 Powell\u2019s heads up play after a missed field goal gave the Chargers great field position on their opening score.\u00a0\u00a0 He then managed to shut down Brandon Taylor and Ryan Gibson on defense.\u00a0 On a crucial drive in the third quarter, Powell ran the \u201cwildcat\u201d to perfection.<\/p>\n<p>Player of The Year:\u00a0 Terris Jones &#8211; California:\u00a0 It is clear that without Jones, the Condors would have had an average season.\u00a0 After starting 0-2 and being held to 75 per games, California went 9-1-1 and Jones averaged 143 yards per game.\u00a0 His contributions on defense were not lost on the Mid Valley staff as Terris had one interception that was returned for a touchdown.\u00a0 He also had seven passes defended.\u00a0 The most notable stat for the highly touted running back was scoring 31 of the teams 46 touchdowns.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4479\" style=\"width: 169px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-4479\" href=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/?attachment_id=4479\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4479\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4479\" src=\"http:\/\/midvalleysports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/lou-farrar-159x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"159\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4479\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Charter Oak Coach Lou Farrar is Coach of the Year. Photo by Anne Cypress.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Coach of The Year:\u00a0 Lou Farrar \u2013 Charter Oak:\u00a0 Winning back to back titles when many thought it was South Hills who would dethrone the Chargers speaks for itself.\u00a0 Farrar is the dean of the San Gabriel Valley coaches with five CIF titles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Staff- We don\u2019t choose a second team, third team or honorable mention.
