On this day in 1972 the “Immaculate Reception” gives the Pittsburgh Steelers an improbable 13-7 win over the Oakland Raiders in the AFC Divisional Playoff game. With 30 seconds left and the Steelers down 7-6, Franco Harris caught a pass from Terry Bradshaw that was intended for Johnny “Frenchy” Fuqua. The pass bounced off the hands of Raiders’ safety Jack Tatum and was scooped up by Harris who ran for the game winning touchdown. There has been a controversy ever since because people contend that the ball hit either Fuqua or the ground either of which would have resulted in an incomplete pass by the rules at the time. The officials ruled touchdown.

10.
