Cole McDonald of Sonora was named MVP for the East<\/p><\/div>\n

(West Covina) – Cole McDonald threw for a touchdown pass and\u00a0ran for another as the East rolled to a 34-6 win over the West Saturday night\u00a0in the Hall of Fame Game at West Covina High School. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Already leading 20-0 in the third quarter McDonald, from Sonora, found La Serna’s Anthony Garcia for a 12-yard score.\u00a0Later in the third McDonald did it with his legs on an 11-yard touchdown run to cap a\u00a060 yard,\u00a09-play drive to account for the final score.<\/p>\n

McDonald was named\u00a0MVP for his efforts. The East went up 6-0 in the first quarter on a 7-yard run by Sonora’s Jacob Fimbres. They made it 14-o in the second quarter\u00a0when Mikey Dean from Chaffey took a pass from\u00a0Charter Oak’s Kamden Brown and scooted around the corner\u00a024 yards for a score.<\/p>\n

It was tough sledding at times for Marcos Lopez and the West<\/p><\/div>\n

The defense got into the act on the next series when on the first play\u00a0of the possession for the\u00a0West Isiah\u00a0Flowers of Ayala\u00a0reached up and picked off a screen pass by Steven Nava and returned it\u00a026 yards for the pick six and it was 20-0 at the half.<\/p>\n

In between McDonald’s\u00a0passing and running touchdowns\u00a0the West got its only score of the night when\u00a0Erick Hernandez of Burroughs hauled in a\u00a042 yards pass from Flintridge Prep’s Andrew\u00a0Tsangeos. Hernandez made a\u00a0great over the shoulder catch\u00a0before sprinting to paydirt.<\/p>\n

The West had trouble getting things going offensively\u00a0putting five times on the night and turning the ball over three times.<\/p>\n

Hernandez was named MVP\u00a0of the West\u00a0for his TD reception and Rancho Cucamonga’s Nathan Thomas of the\u00a0East was named lineman\u00a0of the game.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
