Tyler Api was red hot early for TC<\/p><\/div>\n

(Temple City) – Temple City racked up 26 points in the first quarter\u00a0and then held on late\u00a0to beat Simi Valley 65-62 Wednesday night in the first round of the CIF Division 2A Playoffs.<\/p>\n

The Rams knocked down\u00a012 threes in the game including 10\u00a0in the first half.\u00a0Temple City led 26-15 after one and 42-33 at the half.\u00a0The Rams scorched the nets\u00a0with six three pointers in the first quarter including four by Tyler Api who had 14 in the quarter.<\/p>\n

Api cooled off in the second but\u00a0Jeremy Wong picked up the slack\u00a0burying three from long range\u00a0and Brandon Trang also hit one from distance as the\u00a0Rams still led by nine.<\/p>\n

Both teams\u00a0had trouble finding a groove in the third quarter\u00a0as TC\u00a0was still up by 10 heading into the final frame.<\/p>\n

Simi\u00a0Valley made\u00a0a push in the fourth behind\u00a0Kaden Young and Marcus Wilson. Young had 10 in the quarter and Wilson scored seven including a three.\u00a0The Pioneers took the lead\u00a0with 3:27 left on a basket by Elijah Holts. But Api came back with a pair of free throws\u00a0and Trang hit a bucket\u00a0to make it 61-57 with 1:45 left.<\/p>\n

Jeremy Wong hit the biggest shot of the night with 49 seconds left<\/p><\/div>\n

Wong hit the biggest shot of the night\u00a0sinking a three pointer with 49\u00a0seconds left to give the Rams a\u00a064-59 lead. After Rich Hollinger hit\u00a0a free throw\u00a0with 11 seconds left to make it 65-62, Simi Valley\u00a0had two chances to get even but both Young and Holts\u00a0missed\u00a0from behind the arc as time ran out.<\/p>\n

Young led all scorers for\u00a0Simi Valley with 25\u00a0and Wilson had 17. The Rams had a balanced attack with four players in double figures. Api took scoring honors with 20 and Wong had 18. Trang and Zech Jarrard also found double digits\u00a0with 12 and 10 respectively.<\/p>\n
