Corey Langerveld led the Cougars to victory<\/p><\/div>\n

(Glendora) – Corey Langerveld scored 19 points and Connor Peterson added 12 to lead Azusa Pacific to a 83-74 win over Concordia Friday night at Felix Event Center.<\/p>\n

Concordia\u00a0got the early jump going up\u00a019-9\u00a0but Azusa Pacific\u00a0stormed back\u00a0with a\u00a012-2\u00a0run capped by a\u00a0Langerveld three to tie it at 21. Langerveld buried another three to put the Cougars up 29-28 and they never trailed again.<\/p>\n

Bruce English made several defensive gems\u00a0including a\u00a0block that highlights another Cougar run.\u00a0LyDell Cardwell knocked down a\u00a0trey just before halftime to put\u00a0the Cougs up seven, 39-32 at the half.<\/p>\n

Langerveld led the way at the break with 13. Case Bruton had 8 for Concordia as he tried to keep the Eagles in the hunt.<\/p>\n

APU picked up where it left off in the second half\u00a0going up\u00a049-36 with just over 14 minutes left. The Cougars\u00a0still led 56-44\u00a0with 10:59 left.<\/p>\n

The inevitable\u00a0Concordia push came late in the second half\u00a0as the Eagles roared back\u00a0with\u00a0an 11-2 run to slice the Azusa Pacific advantage to 58-55 with just over eight minutes left.<\/p>\n

The Cougars then quieted\u00a0the Eagles for good\u00a0by outscoring\u00a0them 12-3 over the next six minutes to go up by 12.\u00a0Jared Zoller broke free underneath for\u00a0a pair of\u00a0consecutive lay-ups to highlight the run.<\/p>\n

Concordia\u00a0made it\u00a0interesting with a couple of threes late but\u00a0APU\u00a0ultimately prevailed.<\/p>\n

Big man\u00a0Petar Kutlesic\u00a0had 11, Cardwell, Austin Dyer and Zoller had 10, 9, and 8 respectively.<\/p>\n

JT Roach led Concordia\u00a0with 26 and Justin Davis finished with 18.\u00a0Matt Scott added 12 and 7 rebounds.<\/p>\n

With the victory,\u00a0APU improved to\u00a013-4 in the PacWest and\u00a019-6 overall. Concordia fell to 15-4 in the PacWest\u00a0and 22-5 overall.<\/p>\n

Now the\u00a0Cougars get ready for a\u00a0trip to Hawaii next week. It’s not all vacation time though as the Cougars take on BYU-Hawaii, Chaminade and Hawaii-Hilo February 23-27. The PacWest Tournament is March\u00a03-5 in Irvine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
