Eddie Gamboa scored 16 points including two big threes in the fourth quarter<\/p><\/div>\n

(Baldwin Park) –\u00a0 Baldwin Park hit nine three point shots including four in the first quarter and went on to beat Covina 72-51 Friday night in Valle Vista League action.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 The Braves were led by Thomas Montes who topped all scorers with 20 points, 15 coming from three point range. Montes\u2019 backcourt mate Eddie Gamboa had 16 including four from behind the arc. Montes and Gamboa each had two threes in the first quarter to get the Braves going.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 Baldwin Park started fast and finished even faster. The Braves led 16-14 after one and then increased the lead to 13 at 34-21 by halftime outscoring Covina 18-7 in the second.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 After a slow third in which BP managed just 12 points they came out smoking in the fourth. Gamboa knocked down two more threes and Montes hit a trey and a bucket to spark a 26 point final frame that spelled the end for the Colts.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 The Braves led by two after one but opened the second with a 9-0 run for a 25-14 lead. Covina tried to hang around in the first half before being run over in the second.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 Edgardo Campos scored seven points for Covina in the first quarter and led the team with 14. Point guard Mike Peters came alive late scoring seven points in the final frame and finishing with 12. Evan Hicks, the Colts\u2019 6\u20198\u201d center, was also in double figures with 11 points in the paint.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 Leading by 13 after three, BP went for the throat early in the fourth. Gamboa buried back to back threes and Fernie Morelos hit a basket and the advantage was soon 20. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 Morelos scored 11 overall and Joey De La Torre, who battled Hicks on the block all night, also muscled in 11.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 Baldwin Park improved to 15-2 overall but 1-1 in league. The Braves lost to San Dimas Wednesday night. Covina is 7-7 and 1-1 in the Valle Vista.<\/p>\n
