(Carson) – Portland’s Nat Borchers accidentally headed a cross into the back of his own net late in the second half and the Galaxy escaped with a 1-1 tie Sunday night before a sold out StubHub Center crowd of\u00a025,667.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

The teams were locked in a scoreless tie at the half\u00a0but the Timbers untied it in the\u00a052nd minute when\u00a0Fanendi Adi fired a shot by Galaxy goalkeeper Brian Rowe for a 1-0 lead.\u00a0 Lucas Melano fed Adi with the pass that set it up.<\/p>\n

Then Borchers own goal came in the 85th minute. Initially the scoreboard operators gave credit to Gyasi Zardes for the goal but that was quickly corrected when it was clear that \u00a0Borchers headed it in.<\/p>\n

The Galaxy had their chances throughout the contest but couldn’t find the net.<\/p>\n

Zardes\u00a0got\u00a0off a shot in the 13th minute from\u00a0the left side\u00a0but it was\u00a0saved by Portland keeper Adam Larsen-Kwarasey. Zardes had another\u00a0shot on goal four minutes later but that one sailed high.\u00a0LA was without Robbie Rogers for most of the game as he left early in the first half and was replaced by Rafael Garcia.<\/p>\n

Baggio Husidic fired a cross\u00a0that Zardes\u00a0couldn’t get to\u00a0but Mike Magee could however\u00a0his boot was\u00a0high and over the bar in the 32nd minute.\u00a0The pass\u00a0just missed Zardes\u00a0in the middle for what could have been a point blank blast.<\/p>\n

There was one minute of additional time in\u00a0the first half.<\/p>\n

After Adi’s goal Mike Magee\u00a0had a great opportunity for LA in front of the net but\u00a0misfired\u00a0in the 58th minute.<\/p>\n

In the 73rd\u00a0Nigel de Jong received a yellow card\u00a0for a challenge on Darlington Nagbe who went down. Galaxy coach\u00a0Bruce Arena argued the call and\u00a0some pushing and shoving ensued.<\/p>\n

In the 85th minute the Galaxy got the gift courtesy of Borchers.\u00a0Five minutes of extra time were\u00a0added in the second half but neither team\u00a0could take advantage.<\/p>\n

The Galaxy is now\u00a02-1-3 while the tie left the Timbers at 1-2-2.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
