How do they look? About the same as last year. Things aren’t going to change drastically in one year. The Matadors are young and still trying to find their way.

Head coach Joe Ledesma is concerned abut consistency and numbers.

“We just need to get as many bodies out here as possible. Once we get players out on a consistent basis we can begin to coach them up,” Ledesma said.

San Gabriel had its moments Saturday – good and bad. But with teams like Bell Gardens with new head coach Margarito Beltran, defending league champ Montebello, and Schurr all in the Almont, it’s going to be tough for the Matadors to contend.

Pomona, who was also at Arroyo along with Diamond Bar and Walnut, has an abundance of athletes as usual. The Red Devils are definitely a playoff team. Walnut still has a ways to go before they are ready to make some noise and the problem with Diamond Bar is that it is in the same league as Ayala, Bonita, Glendora and South Hills. It could be tough sledding.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-50812" class=" wp-image-50812" src="http://midvalleysports.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/tangentdreams_jpg-594x768.jpg" alt=""A truly great story unfolds in the pages of Joe Torosian's first novel. It’s a familiar name and one that has been mentioned before but nothing concrete as of yet. The Panthers are still searching for their fourth head coach in as many years.

It’s been speculated that Keppel will drop its football program. The Aztecs haven’t hired a head coach since Aaron Sepulveda was told he wouldn’t be back. When you look at the Aztecs’ recent history when it comes to wins and losses, ending the program would make sense. But still it would be sad to see a local school not playing football.

I was told Saturday that if we write a story about a kid going to a junior college to play football then we have really gone too far. No we won’t do that. However if we are sent information on a player going on to play at the D3 level we will continue to report it. Sure we’d love to see everybody getting scholarships to USC or Notre Dame but of course that’s not happening. If a kid gets a chance to play the sport he loves and is getting benefits to do so at Division 3 it’s awesome, and quite an accomplishment. Don’t believe all the comments stating there is no money offered at D3. Although it might not technically be a scholarship, there are funds offered, academically and athletically, for the Division 3 student athlete. The deal Daniel Campos got at Mount Union is one that would have been foolish to turn down.

I’ll be interviewing a D3 expert, one who is literally inside the process, soon to break it all down.

That’s my principle.

Tim can be reached at tim@midvalleysports.com or on Twitter @tspeterson40.

By Tim Peterson I keep getting messages about Gladstone.
