It doesn’t stop, we’ve got football…what else is there other than football?

I really enjoyed seeing the Jets go into San Diego on Sunday and ruining the Chargers party…I had a feeling it would happen, I guess you could say it was a JoeStaDamus moment.

I knew Norv Turner would show up at some point.

Was that fun or what?

In regards to Colts-Jets this week…I’m not going to be bothered either way. The contest is interesting in the sense that when these teams met in Super Bowl III the Colts were the established team and the Jets were the upstart.

The Colts had the quarterback of the decade in Johnny Unitas just as they have Peyton Manning now. The Jets of course had the young upstart Joe Namath and this time around they have the young guy from USC in Mark Sanchez.

I want a good game and the team that stands the best chance of beating first the Saints and then Vikings.

I first started following football late in the 1972 season, but it wasn’t until 1973 my loathing for the Dallas Cowboys took form.

Sunday wasn’t easy, but I went into Dallas-Minnesota game fully supporting the Pokes.

It was weird, as I rooted for them I felt this new sense of entitlement. As if every flag, right or wrong, should go against my opponent.

And the pushing off by the Cowboy receivers from Drew Pearson to Michael Irvin now suddenly seemed okay.

The feeling of deserving to win never came, but the sense I had already won, and all others (including Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings) should just get out of my way, was there.

As a neo-Dallas Cowboy fan it was my divine right for victory. Kind of like a democrat running for the senate in Massachusetts.

In the end, however, there was no divine right. I was entitled to nothing and perhaps out of cosmic payback for all my ill will toward the Cowboys and the needles stuck in the back of my Roger Staubach doll…they did me in.

So now its time to back track…I never hated Brett Favre. I hated what he did to the Green Bay Packers organization by thinking he was bigger than the team.

But I can get over all of it if he beats New Orleans this weekend. The thought of the Saints being in the Super Bowl is worse to me than government run healthcare.

The story line for both these NFC is excruciating. “The amazing recovery of this city and the part the Saints have played in restoring the hope and pride to New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina.” I can hear Jim Nantz vomiting this syrupy crud already (and he won’t even be calling the Saints-Vikings game). Which will be followed by; “Brett Favre the consumate warrior and competitor, who would not allowing himself to be denied a final opportunity to be on this stage. What must be going through his mind right now as he inches closer to completing his incredible journey.”

I’m warning you, you’re going to need the Mylanta handy watching the AFC final…

Surprisingly we’ve taken little or no heat for our Mission Valley League all decade team in football.

Join us for the The Mid Valley Draft

The Mid Valley Draft is coming. Staff and loyal readers are taking NFL teams and on draft day/night they will select area players out of the Southeast and Mid-Valley divisions. Think terms of someone picking for the Colts drafting Adam Muema out of Charter Oak because they need a running back. (Get it?)
